About this listen
In 1985, Stanley Kubrick encouraged Matthew Modine to keep a journal and take photographs while playing the lead role of Pvt. Joker - a combat correspondent - on the set of his Vietnam War film, Full Metal Jacket. In 2005, Modine published a limited edition book of his diary and photos which later became an interactive experience for the iPad. Now, with the Full Metal Jacket Diary audiobook, fans can listen to Modine as he performs his diary with sound effects and original music. This deeply immersive, first-hand account reveals what it was like to work with Stanley Kubrick, one of cinema's most enigmatic filmmakers.

Great Insights ....
Into the mind of a master filmmaker and a must for Kubrick obsessives ( like me )
‘Talent hits a target no one else can hit; Genius hits a target no one else can see’

Stanley fell firmly into the latter.

Brilliant memoir, brilliant performance!
A great mixture of a pretty personal journey, detailed diary and a full mental respect at one of the greatest film directors ever lived Stanley Full Mental Kubrick.

Working with Kubrick
A great first hand account from the star of what some people consider to be the greatest war film ever made.
Matthew Modine reads from the diary he kept throughout the making of Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket and indeed pre-production on how he got the part (an amusing Val Kilmer story around that bit)!
He narrates this over 25 years after the making of the film and is able to apply that backward perspective to what appears to have been a very hard shoot.
Also interesting to hear of the tensions between some of the actors and the performances he felt that helped draw from them, and him.
It's a reasonably short listen, but I'd highly recommend it to all Kubrick fans.

Full Strait Jacket
Loved this one. Filled with rigorous filmmaking insights from the narrator himself. A Kubrickian treat.

A great insight into a great film.
Takes you deep inside the making of FMJ and a slight glimpse into Kubrick’s mind. That glimpse alone is worth it.
