Summary
Erik Ronningen was on the 71st floor of the North Tower on September 11, 2001, when American Airlines Flight 11 struck the building. After an incredible, near miraculous journey down through the acrid, smoke-filled building, Erik tried to get to the security command center in the South Tower. Unable to do so, he was the last person to make it out of the South Tower alive.
Here is the story of his harrowing escape, interwoven with the accounts of 14 others who were lucky enough to be able to recount them.
Altogether, these accounts document the bravery and heroism, selflessness, and generosity demonstrated by hundreds of people when their normal, everyday lives were suddenly plunged into a fiery scramble for survival.
The astonishing photograph on the cover of this book was taken by survivor Jim Usher as he lay on the concrete outside the World Trade Center, losing consciousness, so his family could see what he saw during what he thought were the last moments of his life. And yes, that flag was really there! This photograph has never before been made public.

Powerful, moving with excellent narration.
I found this book by chance, buried within Audibles library. Deserves much greater exposure.
Can't recommend enough.

Emotional on every level.
My thoughts on what happened that day were always truly terrifying.in a way I saw what happened and almost imagined that the towers were empty. I guess a coping mechanism. This book puts me out of my comfort zone and makes me walk through many peoples steps on that day. Thank you to the author and thank you to the brave people who contributed to a very informative, first hand account of that day we’ll never forget.

Good story
Story is great but the voices are awful it’s like they have a word count to hit and just speak random words to explain one thing an actual waste of a credit has to turn off quarter of the way through because it’s to cringe

Not morbid and a must buy
This book tells the remarkable story of what happened inside the twin towers on 9/11 from the perspectives of those that managed to survive. Ranging from those that just missed the disaster due to luck/fate all the way to those who almost didn't make it. It includes some detailed descriptions of how the explosions of the planes rocked the buildings and how this affected people's .escape and the story of those trapped under the collapse. . Most importantly this book details some of the heroism inside the towers and doesn't stop with the escape. It was great to find out what happened to those who's stories are told.
This book is a celebration of life and not at all morbid or ghoulish. A fascinating and insightful book that everyone should read.

Amazing
After listening to other audiobooks about 9/11 that were incredible, I went into this one with high hopes and I was not disappointed!
This book gives such a detailed insight into the thoughts, fears, grief and hopes of the survivors so well, that you could almost have been there with them whilst it was happening.
Incredibly moving and fantastically written, this one has left a lasting impression that will stay with me for a very long time to come.
