Summary

Superior saga set in Lancashire and Australia from prizewinner Anna Jacobs.

Norah's husband was killed in the Great War, and she's struggling to provide a home for her daughter. Andrew's wife is dead, and he wants to make a new life for his two sons.

The Australian government is giving ex-servicemen a farm. But to join the group settlement scheme, Andrew must find a wife. Will a marriage of convenience give Andrew and Norah the chance they seek? Can two strangers be happy together?

In Australia they have to clear the forest to make their own farms. But they're both strong and willing to give it everything they've got. Then nature intervenes, and not only their farms but their lives are in danger. Will they survive? Can they still make their dreams come true?

Freedoms Land

Such a great story of early settlers taking advantage of free land in Australia after the war. The blood sweat and tears but mostly the joy of their new home

A bit predictable and not a strong story

The book is predictable and has no depth really in terms of a story.
It could have been written and read in half the time.
The narrator was ok.
A repetitive story line with no real direction.
Not one of my Anna Jacobs favourites a mediocre book. Not a page turner.

Just ok

Firstly would have liked a Northern narrator as all settlers northern, very annoying to hear plummy voice try to do Lancashire accent. very predictable, immaturely written & repetitive.
I won’t be rushing to read any more by this author.
