Summary

Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden is Chicago's only openly practicing wizard. He is also dead broke. His vast knowledge and magical skills are unfortunately matched by his talent for making powerful enemies and alienating friends. With little more than his integrity left, he accepts an offer of work from Lt. Karin Murphy of Chicago's Special Investigations Unit. He wants to redeem himself in Murphy's eyes and make enough money to quiet his rumbling stomach.

Soon he finds himself pinned between trigger-happy FBI agents, shape-shifiting motorcycle gang members, a threatened mobster boss, and an heir to an ancient curse along with his primal fiance. Throw in environmental activists and a pair of young werewolves in love and you have something of Fool Moon.

Another great installment

Enjoyed the story, loved James Marsters performance, a few mistakes with chapter numbers, but that's ok. I got the Kindle and the audible book version and flitted between the 2 which worked well

It's a good start but there's one issue

I got into the Dresden Files last year, I love the story and the way its written, everything about it from the snark to the plots.

And the idea some have about James' voice sounding breathy or hearing mouth noises, I like that in this, it gives it a more real feel as if Harry is sat there recounting the events in his version of the McCoy Diaries.

But there's always a little bit here and there that is unneeded in the Dresden Files to pad it out a bit.

This one has a part that really rankles my giblets.

Karrin Murphy. I love her, she's a spitfire and a really lovely person most of the time. But early in the series she's an utter (female dog) . Treats Harry like crap and then runs to him begging for help knowing he'll forget the punches, the kicks, the insults and the threats because he's a guy who can't say no to a girl in trouble.

So we come to the elephant in the room. what she does in this book is unforgivable to me, it really had me dislike her for a while too.
She's a cop who is SO good at her job she can see trash and associate it with something later on but can't read a facial expression of grief and pain? She's so blinded by a desire to catch the bad guy that she's willing to get anyone for it and throw away the key on him because of a sketch of a circle and then say it's his fault for not telling her things and "lying" to her.

Nah, that's (well apparently Audible won't let you swear now it was four letters btw) in my view and a horrible thing to do - realistic for a person like Karrin to do when she feels betrayed but wrong in every sense of the word. They met when she was a beatcop, they've known each other long enough for her to get the rank of Lt. He's helped the city multiple times in multiple cases and saved a lot of lives, but this is it? A picture of a circle that is like the one a person died in?

Nah, that's her being a bad cop, letting personal stuff get in on her and overriding her thinking, and I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking this was a bad move by Butcher, thankfully after book 3 they've fixed that part of her character.

Even better than the first

Beautifully written, sometimes poetic. Thought it was even better than the first. Very enjoyable narration by John Marsters.

Solid, but there's better books in the series

Listening to these again, and this was always my least favourite of the series. Still good, but just not as good as the rest of the series.

James is more comfortable as Harry than in Storm Front, and he only gets better!

Think you know something about werewolves?

I was pleasantly surprised at the details and plot twists in this book. I never expected a detective story quite like it. everything is in place and makes perfect sense in a world that shouldn't. Thoroughly love the narration and enthralled by the plot driven action.

The only thing my 15 year old son and I agree on!

Would you listen to Fool Moon again? Why?

Already have.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Fool Moon?

Too many great moments to choose.

What about James Marsters’s performance did you like?

Perfect comic timing.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

“I can't be under arrest now... I don't have time.” - Harry

Any additional comments?

“Black wizards don't just grow up like toadstools, you know. Someone has to teach them complicated things like summoning demons, ritual magic, and clichéd villain dialogue.” - Harry

Deserved praise!

Really love how Mr Butcher brings Harry Dresden to life! Feel like he's a mate and I know him! Excellent work. Highly recommend these books. And of course who doesn't love James Marsters? Thank you.
