About this listen
Harry feels downtrodden. Downtrodden by senior management, who have decided to retire him, and by his meddling, sex-obsessed father in law. But mostly by his wife, Hilda. And she tells him they must retire to Cornwall.
There is talk of reconnection, but neither can remember being connected in the first place. Harry takes up a creative writing course, through which he can live out his fantasies - fantasies of murdering his wife. But Hilda reads his story and, lost on Bodmin Moor, is confronted with devil worshippers, a convicted call centre worker with a habit of cutting off fingers, and a birdwatching hitman. In her absence, and befuddled by his writing tutor's hallucinogenic muffins, Harry looks very guilty indeed.

Review on 5 minute warning
Brilliant, I have read all of Tom Sharpe’s’ books and the comparison is similar, well done. I shall get a few more of Curtis’ books.

Feels a little like “Wilt”
As mentioned feels a little like Wilt but not as funny. First time I’ve read/heard this author, so I’m going to give his books another try.

Funny novel, though not quite laugh out loud
I don't know if I'm disappointed to find that this was not quite as funny as Tom Sharpe's novels, or pleased to find a new author that can at times make me laugh. I suspect I might have been too full of expectation. The story was actually pretty good, the characters well developed. It was at times very funny and had me chuckling along but compared with Tom Sharpe fell a little short in the 'laugh out loud/uncontrollably' stakes. A fact that given the byline. is a bit of a let down.
For instance I might have expected the lead to have more prolonged trouble with the authorities, I might have expected Sir Ronald to have got into far more scrapes akin to the exploits of Sir Giles Lynchwood in Blott on the Landscape. All the ingredients are present, it just needed a little more depth in the flavour.
If you've not read anything of Tom Sharpe before, then this will be a great book for entertainment. For me I think it was a little like watching a remake of the best Carry On Films - probably good, but erring on the side of caution and too inoffensive to let it's hair down and go for it.
Nevertheless, the story and style was enjoyable enough for me to purchase further books from the author. I also think that the performance by voice over artist Will Oxborrow was good, but might be even better if someone like Stephen Fry was at the helm as he is a comic genius.

If you like Tom Sharpe, you'll love this.
Very funny story and characters, this is most definitely a laugh out loud book. I sincerely hope Audible will be getting more titles by Giles Curtis. Very enjoyable.

Great Escapism
I have always been a fan of Tom Sharpe and was therefore anxious that someone writing in the same style wouldn't pull it off. I found this book to be great fun, well written and much needed escapism in these dark days. I really enjoyed the plot, very much in the Wilt style. Glad I found this author and will certainly read his other works after discovering this one.

Dull
Not a bad story, although not as good as Tom Sharpe by any means. The narrator, however, is very tedious and I won't be listening to anything else he narrates
