Summary

Poppy Fields has a movie-star mother, 84 million Instagram followers, paparazzi following her every move, and a problem. Her Mexican vacation just went sideways (abducted-by-a-drug-lord sideways).

Suddenly her life resembles one of her mother's movies, except the bullets are real, people are dying, and there's no guarantee of a happy ending. Surrounded by trained killers and unsure who she can trust, only one thing is certain - if Poppy doesn't escape, this vacation will be her last.

Its not all sand and surf

I enjoyed this book. This is the first book by this author that I have read or listened too but it won't be my last. I heard a podcast from an author I like and she was doing an interview with this author. It sounded interesting so I downloaded it and it sat on my device for a while. I finally got around to listening and it was so not what I was expecting, they are right when they say don't judge a book by its cover. There is so much action, it's not a typical cosy mystery but oh so much better. I wasn't sure about the spoiled rich girl as a many character to begin with but she quickly grew into her own and a likeable character. The plot was good and quickly evolved into something far more deadly and entertaining. A great start to a new and unusual series that get can't wait to get back too.
Poppy has always been in her famous mothers shadow, which leads to a life of endless parties and shopping but when a tragedy strikes she just wants to get away from it all and forget. So when a friend suggest doing some publicity photos for a new resort in exchange for a free stay, she jumps at the chance. Unfortunately things don't go as planned and a guest she just met dies, which leads Poppy to being attacked and Poppy can't wait to return home. With the police holding her passport Poppy makes other plans, only to discover somebody else has other plans. She is kidnapped by a drug Lord and with only a Chihuahua as an ally, Poppy will have to prove everybody wrong and act her way out of deadly situation or it will be curtains for this daughter of a famous actress.
I liked the narrator. She used her voice well to bring the characters to life. Even if she did make me jump when the Chihuahua yipped a number of times.
