Summary

The epidemic of disinformation has led to rampant exploitation of facts, causing violence and anarchy. It is now the year 2051, and Fiducia, an independent city-state, has been created to audit information for its factual acuity.

Fudicia is a secular state dedicated solely to validating fact. It is supported by most countries in the world and exists only for the purpose of arresting the spread of disinformation. It is isolated from the rest of the world, and great efforts have been taken to ensure its incorruptibility.

All of its needs and its protection are ensured by all the member countries. Its citizens are monk-like people void of any desire, many of whom have been genetically altered to ensure this.

One of the monks uncovers an internal anomaly that leads them to investigate the very roots of their system and the very nature of their mission. What is left when all desire is eradicated? In the end, they discover that the need to pursue fact is, in itself, a desire.
