Summary
I hired him to protect my body, but who will protect my heart?
He’s a thief, a convicted felon. A cocky guy with tattoos and a smirk for days. He needs a bodyguard and I need a job, so here we are. And the more time I spend with Ronan Michaels, the more I realize maybe he isn’t the bad guy after all. But why do I feel like he’s hiding something or protecting someone? Or both?
My angel Gabriel has a devil on his shoulder. He’s not a sinner—but certainly no saint. He’s been lied to and abandoned. Hurt by people who should love him no matter what. Gabriel’s discovered my secrets, yet the more I push him away, the closer he stands by my side. And when his past crumbles, leaving him searching for answers, I’m right there for him, holding his hand. Holding him up. Because love is catching someone when they fall. And never letting go.
From Lambda Literary Award-winning author Felice Stevens, comes an irresistible bodyguard romance about two men busy fighting the demons of their past—and their attraction to each other.

rollercoaster ride.
brilliant story . Kale's narration was perfect. it was a rollercoaster ride of emotions. With Rowan and Gabriel both keeping their guards up, until they could no longer resist each other.
brilliant story, brilliant narration

Heartwarming and so emotional!
I loved this beautiful standalone by Felice Stevens. Ronan ad Gabriel are such wonderful, caring and giving characters! (Too much so, maybe, as I wouldn’t be as forgiving as they were, especially Ronan!). I loved everything about the story. They are both mature characters, and that showed in the way they faced things and their relationship, without unnecessary drama, lack of communication or flat-out stubbornness!
Kale Williams is always an added bonus to any story, and I loved his performance to pieces!

An intense story, great narration!
Felice Stevens has done it again: she has written a very emotional book that absolutely captivated me from the first page. What a roller coaster ride of emotions.
Even the first chapter was intense. Being released from prison and then there is no one there to see you and the people Ronan has left of family have moved quite far away. But the more you learn about Ronan and his motives, the more heartbreaking the story is. I was angry, I was sad, I was stunned.
But where there is a lot of shadow, light eventually emerges and in this case that was Gabriel, who first saved Ronan from an angry crowd and whom he then hired as a bodyguard.
I really loved both Ronan and Gabriel. They are likable, very sympathetic and were profoundly drawn by Felice Stevens. I loved how their relationship developed and I loved Gabriel so much for looking behind Ronan's facade. Ronan's sister and her husband, on the other hand, I unfortunately didn't warm to.
However, Gabriel also has a baggage from his past that he has to deal with.
I loved the story of Ronan and Gabriel. A very stirring book about family, trust, disappointment and betrayal, but also joy and forgiveness.
The narrator, Kale Williams, did an absolutely fantastic job narrating the audiobook. I love how soulfully he is able to express all the emotions of the different characters. He brought the story to life, he gave the characters different voices, had the appropriate pace of speech and was a pleasure to listen to!
Highly recommended!

A true lovestory
A story about family, love, trust - and betrayal (no cheating within the MC). This hit pretty close to home for me! The balance between feeling hurt and letting things stay in the past. Where the limit is for you is a decision only you can make.
Kale Williams is an amazing narrator!

An unusual story of unselfish love
The premise of this story drew me in from the beginning, it was like no other I’ve ever encountered. But that’s pretty standard for a Felice Stevens novel - originality is certainly one of her strong points; that and characterisation in my opinion.
I felt very sorry for Ronan, he was stitched up by his sister and her husband and all they needed to do to make him feel that spending years in prison for a crime he did not commit was worth it, was to simply love him and be there for him on his release. But of course there would have been no story had that been the case.
I felt slightly uncomfortable with the way he seemed to roll over and take their selfish and cruel rejection of him and I wished he’d stood up for himself sooner. But human nature being what it is, we none of us know how anyone else will react, so that’s not a criticism.
Thank goodness for Gabriel who comes into Ronan’s life accidentally and not only sees him, but ends up saving him and giving him back some self respect.
Both characters are well drawn although I didn’t really feel the pull of their attraction to each other as much as I have in previous Felice Stevens books. Still I enjoyed the story on the whole.
Kale Williams, as always, gives a stellar performance. He and the author work so well together. When I see his name on a book I will almost always buy it. But when I see his name coupled with Felice Stevens it’s a certainty.
A lovely story of a truly unselfish love for some pretty diabolical people. Thank goodness for ‘Angel Gabriel’ and his love.
