Not for me

These fairytales are very repetitive in nature and many of them repeat themselves over and over. A common trend is something happening the exact same way. A bird lamenting for a rose, death punishing avarice, egoman pushing his friend around, birdhostage, soul nagging, etc.

I can't enjoy these, and I don't see how Oscar Wilde is anything unique in his writings. The morals are extremely on the nose and the writing drags.

The performance had varying audio levels. One performer I could barely hear with max volume, then proceeded by the loudest one yet making me hurt and rapidly lowering the volume.

loved it

not your traditional happy ending fairy tales, I really enjoyed it. I will be buying the book to read to my children.

Very satisfactory short listen

I had never read this quaint little work by Oscar Wilde before and I was not disappointed by it one bit. A collection of charming, blue-hued fairy tales brought to life by a stellar cast of readers.

What a lovely surprise...

I downloaded this free offer with no great expectations, but what a lovely surprise I got. I was in one of those moods where I couldn’t settle to concentrate getting into a new book so decided to give this a go. Almost at once I was captivated, completely enraptured by these new to me tales read so beautifully. Until the last one - The Selfish Giant. As a young teacher of 5 year olds I was coerced into basing thematic work on this story and it was definitely not a resounding success. That’s very personal though! This was a thoroughly enjoyable listen.

Good but not perfect

Some of the stories are better than others and are often sad (lots of broken hearts), but worth listening to, especially with all-star list of narrators.

Enjoyable tales

It was lovely to hear these stories even though most of them had a sad note in them. Great narration I creased the enjoyment🙂

Okay

Well this was (obviously) a book of fairy tales and all the elements were here, princesses, giants, talking animals and plants - even a conscious firework. Some read like parables with a message. Some are a bit dark. Most were fairly forgettable. I appreciate that at 59 I am maybe not the target market for these stories, but as I know Oscar Wilde as a witty and accomplished author I was expecting something more from this collection. If I had my time again I am not sure I would bother but …. It was okay

short Stories by Oscar Wilde

I loved these short stories. They were read beautifully. All the different voices added so much to them.
