Summary
Elton John is as much loved for his outrageous personality and witty outspokenness as for his music. Such shamelessness and sheer silliness rivals anything uttered by punk rockers, yet it is so typically Elton: honest and intemperate. Tragedy and heartbreak have played a large part in his life. Behind the parties, the hedonism, the lavish stage costumes, and the silly glasses lies a more somber story. Between disputes with managers, legal wranglings, public breakups, and divorce, John has been faced with not only an expanding waistline and a receding hairline but serious health problems and drug addictions.
Drawing on many firsthand interviews with his associates and musical collaborators, this intriguing story of high drama and prodigious talent traces John's astonishing journey through life as the colossus of camp, while also offering a critical history of his work and a fresh analysis of his contributions to popular music.

Thoroughly Enjoyed this book
It was fascinating to hear all the insights about someone who I have known and loved nearly all my life. All Elton's struggles and successes and how he has dealt with them all.
A good listen for any music fan.

Completely satisfactory
So you've seen the movie. So did I, sort of. And even if I am able to listen to no more than a dozen of Elton hits, 'Rocket Man' made me curious.
Now, 'The Biography' may sound a bit pompous but surely this humble, respectful and warm-heartedly written new book about Sir Elton is much far from wanting to be larger than life. I knew everything what I ever wanted to know about him in a funny, tender, tactful and (it seems to be the case) reliable manner. I would highlight the accurate historical and musical background and the professionally researched, often day by day account of Elton's carreer without ever being tedious. The author gives us an enjoyable analysis of each release and is full of admiration towards his subject but also full of sober criticism.
The narrator read the whole stuff full of awe and often near to tears. He read it like poetry. It was slightly annoying at the beginning but all in all suited the lovely tone of the biography. Sorry, The Biography.
