Summary

Cousin to Elizabeth I - and possibly Henry VIII's illegitimate granddaughter - Lettice Knollys had a life of dizzying highs and pitiful lows.

Entangled in a love triangle with Robert Dudley and Elizabeth I, banished from court, plagued by scandals, embroiled in treason, Lettice would lose a husband and son to the executioner's ax. In the first ever biography of this remarkable woman, Nicola Tallis takes us through her dramatic life and the grand sweep of the Tudor Age and the events that define it.

Excellent Book

I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Very well written with gripping accounts of Tudor life and the court of Elizabeth 1.
A fitting account of the life and times of an amazing Elizabethan Lady. Highly recommended.

Too many maybe and perhaps

The first two thirds of the book contained too many maybe and perhaps (perhaps she saw this). By the end there were more actual facts appearing. Loved the reader will be looking at more books read by Charlotte Strevens.

A fascinating woman, with a little told story

Great story told well. Well read but why oh why oh WHY didn’t they check the pronunciations of the characters’ names before making the recording?! There are some shockers in here! Very distracting. Felt like fingernails on a blackboard after the first few hours. A great shame.

A bit thin

Short on facts about Lettuce Knollys, long on 'would have', 'could have', 'must have' and 'probably'. The production is a bit sloppy, probably due to cheerfully reading out typos as written (castles built in 2020 and place names missing letters).
Passes the time, but one is unlikely to learn anything new.
