About this listen

Written by Kate Russell under official license from the creators of, and based in the vast universe of, the seminal space trading computer game Elite: Dangerous.

Commander Angel Rose, forced into a life of crime due to circumstances beyond her control, is determined to survive in the unforgiving void as a professional assassin.

Will she be forced into the ignominy of moving back in with her parents when her efforts fail to leave her with credit-earning blood on her hands?

After years of galactic travel, could Angel's destiny be to end up drinking cheap liquor in a bar in Slough?

Gets better as the story progresses

This took me a while to get into, but as the back third took hold, I found myself gripped.

Very good stuff. Very.

A wonderful glimpse into Elite Dangerous

The story is fast paced but really enjoyable with just enough detail to bring the characters to life. The worlds (most of which I've visited in the game) are really well described and vivid. The story itself is believable and follows a mostly logical path. A must for all Commanders!!

Very well made.

Really enjoyed this audio book, the story was fun but the poem bit near the end was a little too weird and threw me when I heard it. The production values of this are amazing as there are numerous effects at work and it really created an atmosphere whilst the story was being told.

Great story/smart funny writing/xlnt performance

As a lover of sci-fi but someone who was not familiar with the world of Elite-Dangerous I was unsure how much I would enjoy Kate Russell's first novel Mostly Harmless set in its world. I needn't have worried from the very get go Kate's narrative and writing style drag you effortlessly into the story . Added to this her brilliant performance as narrator and all characters and all that's left to do is sit back relax and be taken on a rip roaring adventure with Angel our reluctant Hero as her hitherto predictable life spins out of control both physically and metaphorically into the world of space pirates, murder, intrigue, assassinations, and all round 24/7 danger, all set in within complex and highly detailed sci-fi universe. Thank you Kate for an enthralling 6 hours of entertainment.

Great book!

I am a big Elite Dangerous fan so I loved this story, lots of fun bits and serious bits. There is a problem with the editing on a couple of chapters, they repeat, but other than that the production is spot on. I highly recommend this title and I really hope that there will be further from this series!

A school project

The station is called Slough. so I'm waiting the entire time for the punchline. Was that the idea this flimsy story clung to or was it the other punchline with the book? Twists weaker than an ageing pop star. Awkward sex reminiscent of nature documentaries with the parents.

It felt like a school excercise. A task to tick the box against all aspects of the Elite universe, from technical workings to historical facts. everything present and correct -- now to build a story around it.

Need less echo, fewer effects, crisper narrative

I liked the story though it wasn't difficult to guess the twist. The audio had a little too much echo. I listen to audio books when driving and prefer good clear narration to an attempt at a radio play.

Dangerously Harmless

if you are the kind of person who has a Mrs Bennett sort of mother you'll identify right away with this rich tale of a reluctant space underworld underdog.
