About this listen

‘Is that Mrs Bennet?’ The chirpy voice of the school receptionist tinkles down the phone line. ‘This is St Mary’s. Do you know what time you’ll be here to pick up Isla? Only it’s almost four and the school day finishes at three o’clock.’

This is the day my life changes forever.

It started so normally. The alarm went at 7am. My husband made bacon and pancakes for me and our seven-year-old daughter, the kitchen full of chatter and laughter.

He gave me a quick kiss, told me he loved me, grabbed his wallet, and rushed off to work.

Just an ordinary day. Until I get the call from the school. It was Tom’s turn to pick up our daughter. He must be held up for some reason. I call his mobile. Leave a message.

Then I call his office. I get his boss. His tone is brusque. Tom hasn’t shown up at all today.

I find Tom’s phone under our bed. Now I know there’s something seriously wrong. I scroll through his messages. A text sent late last night: I KNOW EVERYTHING.

I call the police. They don’t want to know. They think Tom’s having an affair.

But it’s far worse than that. I start digging – and make a truly shocking discovery.

The man I’ve lived with for the past eight years, the man I’ve made a home, a family, a life with, isn’t who I thought he was at all. The man I married has been lying to me ... about everything.

Good story but annoying character!

Although I did enjoy this book which was excellently narrated, I found the main character Claire eventually began to really get on my nerves. She was so irritating and annoying but I wanted to stick with it because I needed to know how it ended. I'm really glad I persevered because I loved the final twist!

Dreadful

I dont often write a bad review for the books I download but this none was just dreadful.

Poor storyline, dreadful characters, appalling narration.

I really have struggled to finish it. Sorry but it is a no from me.

the lady reading it was very good

I didn't like how the wife was described as being incapable of dealing with the crappy situation she'd found herself in but the story was fantastic and certainly didn't see the twist at the end coming

terrible narration, poor story

The narrator sounds so stressed and can barely control her emotions through out the story. it was exhausting just listening to her. The main character is verging on narcissism and is difficult to emphasize with. combine that with the needy, emotional narrator, I couldn't finish the book. I had 10% left and I just had enough. Good luck to you if you try this one.

Good premise but didn’t live up to it

This was a painful listen. The narrator was terrible and breathless. Too dramatic and whiny. The plot was weak and I found myself starting and stopping endlessly. I simply couldn’t get into it.

I was really looking forward to this release so it was a huge disappointment. Nothing really happens and I didn’t care what happened to any of the characters. Sorry to have to be so negative but this is not the author’s best work.
