About this listen

The first battle was a victory. But the war is just beginning....

Earth is a radioactive ruin. But the initial campaign of the Butlerian Jihad has given new hope to mankind. Serena Butler, whose murdered child has become a symbol for oppressed humanity, inspires a war against the thinking computers led by Xavier Harkonnen and Vorian Atreides. But four of the Titans - murderous machines with human brains and human cunning - still remain. And the universal computer mind, Omnius, still wields most of its power.

Absolutely brilliant

An absolute gem. Superb, thought provoking sci-fi filled with complex characters and plots. Can’t wait to start on the next book in the trilogy

a sci-fi masterpiece

I read this book when it originally came out, I read it a number of times, Previously listened to the audiobook and will listen to this again and again. This is probably my favourite sci fi trilogy of all time, well performed. if you haven't listened to this series's you should.b

Scott Brick is back!

A much improved performance from Scott Brick. It's perhaps not surprising as it's a much better story than it's prequel, the Butlerian Jihad, which was a rather bland tale altogether and didn't seem to inspire him.

This one is less Warhammer and more Dune. I liked it and, whilst political maneuvering and basic plot intrigue are still somewhat overshadowed by warfare and graphic descriptions of mutilation, you do have to remember that's what this trilogy is all about, viz. the war against the Machines!

In summary, still not up to "Prelude Trilogy" standards but good entertainment and well worth the money, especially for Dune fans.

good story but

nice follow on, not as engaging as the first but glad to have listened. Sometimes a little long and drawn out. but I am eager to learn about the beginning...

More background information

Well read story about adding to an already well built universe, it may not have the punch of the original work, but still it is a worthy addition.

Preserves the flavour of the original

Interesting to see the origins of the factions and family histories of the major players in the original series

Excellent!!

Another masterpiece for the extended Dune universe. Scott Brick is incredible as always and still remains my all time favourite narrator. I’m straight on to the third book in this trilogy and can’t wait. Enjoy!
