Michael Crichton at his best

Michael Crichton has always been my favourite author ever since I read Jurassic park, as I’m sure is the same for many people. Whilst I’ve enjoyed all his books I’ve listened to this one is definitely my favourite since reading Jurassic park. A fantastic blend of fiction and non fiction, if your interested if you have previously read the about the bone wars the you’ll see this book follows a fictional character with a fictional story through very real events which brings them to life! As always with Crichton it’s meticulously reached and you come away feeling you’ve learned a lot. I Can’t recommend this book enough, the story is gripping and compels you to read on throughout its entire duration, which is helped along by a fantastic narrator, my only complaint is that there isn’t more of it!

Buy this audiobook, you won’t regret it!

Really enjoyed this

This was a compelling listen and altbough not totally factual, the use of the Marsh and Copes diaries and history of the time were well researched. A rattling good story anyway, with lots of atmosphere and excitement! The narrator, Scott Brick, was excellent and a perfect choice for the book.

A fun fast paced, but unfinished adventure

An enjoyable action adventure, but as released after Crichton died (he wrote it in the 70s) so was unfinished. Therefore a bit patchy and unfocused, but fast paced with some exciting action sequences and suspence of Indian attacks. Well narrated.

Classic Crichton story well performed

Crichton expertly crafts history and characters into a gripping, realistic story of days gone by; a real treat to listen to.

Not my cup of tea

Interesting story but it was not what i expected. Nothing out of the ordinary happens. Just a story about returning fossils in the old west. Interesting if you like that topic, lots of details about those times and the day to day life but do not expect any fantasy or scifi or ghosts.

Brings the Wild West to vivid live

I'm a big Michael crichton fan, otherwise I wouldn't have bought this or listen to it. But it's a brilliant story that once it gets going is gripping. It feels like you've been on a journey around the west once you've listened to it and I was sad when it wrapped up.
I wasn't sure on the narration to start but once it got going the narrator accent just added to the feel and he brought the characters to life.
I'd thoroughly recommend.
