Summary

Jon Culshaw reads this classic novelisation of Doctor Who's special 20th-anniversary TV adventure, featuring the Doctor in each of his first five incarnations.

Each one has been removed from his time-stream and - with one unfortunate exception - brought to the Death Zone on Gallifrey. There, they - along with an array of their loyal former companions - encounter numerous deadly obstacles including Daleks, Cybermen, Yeti, the Master and a fiendish set of puzzles. Who is the ultimate enemy they must all unite to defeat?

Based on Terrance Dicks's epic TV adventure, first broadcast in 1983, The Five Doctors offers listeners a chance to turn the clock back and meet some old friends - and some old enemies.

the best audiobook ever

I have never had as much fun from an audiobook ever! as a fan, I've known the story for years, but hearing Jon Culshaw play all the parts brilliantly (the Doctors are so good, I can forgive his Tegan!) is an absolute joy. Culshaw is the perfect reader for this yarn, and the sound effects and background music all add to the quality of this product. Wonderful job! now I hope he tackles the Three Doctors too

One of my favourite Doctor Who stories

Absolutely love this anniversary story. Remember it well from my childhood and subsequent dvd viewings. To hear the audio book read wonderfully by Jon Culshaw is a joy. He captures all the doctors so well.

Felt more like a novel than an actual novelisation of a television episode.

Been wanting to get into some of the Target Novels for a while now and since it was the first classic serial I owned on DVD, it only seemed fitting to start with The Five Doctors.

Like the actual television special it’s adapted from, this is a well paced, well written story, written by the late, great, Terrance Dicks.

One of the other reasons I picked this was because it was read by Jon Culshaw, whose impressions of the original actors is uncanny.

A highly recommend listen.

Culshaw makes it sound like a multi cast drama.

I've read this book several times and have seen the programme it is based on several times. in this reading, Culshaw proves that he isn't just a great mimic of the fourth Doctor: his other Doctors, particularly Doctors two and three, are spot on.

Had this as a paperback when I was a child.

Great to relive the story now I'm 50 through John Culshaw's excellent vocal gifts.

a great listen for a quiet weekend

John Culshaw of Dead Ringers fame provides brilliant and immersive narration utilising his improv skills to wonderfully emulate the tones and inflections of the various Doctors as he goes. a wonderful and atmospheric trip back to the Tarhey Novel days. we worth this months credit.

Classic DW story told with great style.

A fantastic telling of the Target novelization. Jon Culshaw excels as the Doctors, and supporting characters. Everyone knows how good Culshaw's impression of Tom Baker is, but here he delivers a stellar and uncanny performance of Jon Pertwee's 3rd Doctor. It's as if Pertwee is alive again when you hear his lines. Also of note are Jon's impressions of the 5th Doctor, the Brigadier and The Master.

5/5 from me. A must for any Doctor Who fan.
