Summary
Winner of the Comedy Women In Print Prize 2021
‘Whip-smart, original and so funny. I found it impossible to put down and lost count of the number of times I laughed out loud’ Beth O’Leary, Sunday Times bestselling author of The Road Trip
Your family would kill to see you happy
‘ARE YOU…DEAD?’
OH MY GOD. I THINK HE IS.
When Meddy Chan accidentally kills her blind date, she turns to her aunties for help. Their meddling set her up on the date so they kind of owe her.
WELL, THAT DIDN’T QUITE GO TO PLAN.
Although hiding this goddamn dead body is going to be harder than they thought especially when her family’s wedding business has THE biggest wedding of the year happening right now.
IT’S PRETTY BAD TIMING REALLY.
It turns out the wedding venue just happens to be managed by Meddy’s ex, aka the one who got away. It’s the worst time to see him again, or…is it? Can Meddy finally find love and make her overbearing family happy?

Funny and fabulous book!
Dial A for Aunties is filled with one chaotic event after another. We follow Meddy Chan, a wedding photographer, and her aunties all trying to hide a secret from everyone else. In the process, Meddy ends up forming a beautiful relationship with her aunts and begins to understand just how much her mother loves her, even if that meant hiding a dead body!
I loved every aspect of this book- the chaos, the humour, the confusion, the depiction of Indonesian culture, and even the love interest. While at some points it felt slightly predictable, it went away within two seconds, the moment another crazy thing happened.
This was such a joyful ride and a perfect book to cheer yourself up after a stressful day!

So much fun to read!!
I laughed a lot. How silly and wacky it was. I know a lot of it was so over the top and sometimes unrealistic but if you can see past that you will find this a very enjoyable read. If you liked Crazy rich Asians and Weekend at Bernies you will enjoy this too!!

Twists and turns worthy of PG Wodehouse himself
A great hoot with a crazy plot and mad capers against the backdrop of a wedding. Could see this making a good romcom film. As I said, worthy of Wodehouse himself whose characters were also often plagued by overbearing aunts. I personally didn't think the (occasional) swearing was necessary or appropriate for this kind of book. Also, it might have benefited by cutting down a bit. All in all, great fun and I would recommend.

Dialogue highlight
Completely far fetched to such an extent it was farcical. Found myself thinking the murder was unnecessary to the story. Took away from what might have been a bit of fun holiday read. The overly descriptive emotional monologues along side hidden corpses exasperated me no end. I ended up listening to this book as reading it was torturous and i had to get through it as it’s up for Book Club discussion.

Boring, had to return
It feels like something written by someone who does not read books. Slow, excessively padded, with lots of repetition and immature comments. I could see this being a successful light comedy but could not hold my interest as a book.
The characters would probably be fun on film but felt undeveloped for a book. Would not recommend and ended up returning it.

cheesy and unrealistic
I struggled with this book. I got it because it was rated so highly on goodreads, but I can't see why. The positives: The family dynamics and the cultural descriptions are great, but:
- the romance is so cheesy,
-you need to completely suspend your awareness of reality (surely there is incriminating cctv a luxury hotel resort?!?)
-the style of descriptive language is quite high school in style.
I was happy when it was over tbh.
