About this listen

Ten years ago, The Harlequin Boys broke my heart.

I thought my life was complete with them at my side, the five of us against the world, having each other’s backs no matter what the cost.

I’d fight for them until my dying breath.

It’s just a shame they didn’t feel the same.

Once upon a time, my imperfect world shone bright with the light of four boys I would have killed for.

This is the story of how they destroyed me.

This is a 45k prequel novella to the Harlequin Crew series. These books have dark themes, violence, criminals, gangs, and an enemies to lovers romance that will make your heart pound, break it a little, and then crush it beneath the boots of four black hearted men who our girl might just fall for anyway.

prequel to a dark, non paranormal, RH book.

Hands up! Who read the blur or book 1 and thought paranormal book...she's said grave dirt in her mouth...so para..no! It's not a paranormal book so far. For some reason, I kept wondering when one of them would reveal they were part of the shifters pack or something. Well, don't worry, just because it doesn't contain magic or sci-fi or extra human gifts, does not mean the book isn't good.
This novel is to set up book 1, and it's a strong build. I love the innocence within the troubled teens, just trying to find their way, dealing with some heavy family situations.
Foster care
Parental abuse
Sexual abuse
Poverty related family life
Gangster upbringing
All these and more push them together into a chosen family, and it seems strong... but can it stay that way?
I love the way it's written from all MCs POV...although Chase I connect with the least as he had that fit over what he thought he saw.
But the worst is the ending of this short story. And I have to keep in mind they are 16 - to 17 year olds. Unlike paranormal books, where the having powers and magic comes with more politics to school each other and have intense emotional reactions as they have to be closer to their instincts to be strong in their gifts. This book layers on gang politics and how that structure can force intense emotions in the characters to deal with always being on edge in a world where the big get shot down if they don't pay attention.

OK, rambled again!
Either way, there is no smut, but blossoming urges we all understand as they went through them as teens ourselves. Confusion and body insecurities that come from measuring yourself against others your own age as you grow and battle hormones.

It's worth a read! 3.8 stars

Heartbreakingly Beautiful

***** May Contain Spoilers *****

This novella tells the story of Rogue and her 4 boys, the Harlequin boys. Their friendship and love for each other carries them through their rough upbringing, living in the shadows of the Harlequin Gang, that Fox and Maverick are destined to join.

But one fateful night sets them all onto a different path that what they had hoped, their dreams of a future together, all 5 of them, crashing to the dust, leaving Rogue heartbroken and alone.

The two narrators did a great job and their voices fit the characters perfectly. They really made the story come alive.

Peckham and Valenti writes so fluently and engaging that my heart broke, right along with all of them. These girls can do no wrong and I can't wait to begin this series after this intro. I already love all these characters.

One word ADDICTED

This novella has me the MOST excited I have ever been for a new series. One word ADDICTED 💕

I cannot get enough of the characters and the story and wonder how its going to develop.

This is the perfect introduction to the backstories of the characters and how they interact and become who they are as adults.

I am so so so excited to continue this series.
I have listened and read this over and over 🤣🙈

Heartbreaking audio that will have you ugly crying

Another 5+++ star story by such fantastic writers! I love everything they write but Devil’s Pass is a great introduction to their new series. It’s set 10 years before the new series and I cannot wait to find out what happens to Rogue and the boys.

My heart is breaking at what happened to Rogue I have legit sat and ugly cried for a full 30 minutes and I'm still crying as I type out this review. I never thought a small prequel novella could have such an affect on me or leave you on such a cliff hanger but then again with these authors i really should have expected it! Chase has to be my favourite of the boys, he's so damaged and broken and in need of someone to believe in him, some light for himself.

I’m already as addicted to this series as their others and it’s barely begun. These amazing authors manage to suck you in and make you experience a rollercoaster of emotions, leaving you in utter turmoil and this book is no different. They have chosen some brilliant narrators to narrate this story and I am in awe of their talent!

I wholeheartedly recommend and encourage everyone to buy this book as it will be well worth the money and you won’t be able to put it down!

Devil’s Pass

This is the prequel to The Harlequin Crew series. This was a great start to what is going to be an incredible series. Rouge is a foster kid on the wrong side of the tracks. She has four best friends that will do anything for her. Two of them are the infamous Luther Harlequin’s sons and the other two are gearing up to join when they come of age. Everything changes for all of them one night. Bridget and Jake Bordeaux did an amazing job narrating this book.

Not really a romance and designed to shock

I know that the idea is introduce the series and to be fair the characters are likeable, but then the tension is removed from the character relationships and it just becomes rather grim. Also it’s says there is a cliff hanger but there is not really. Vaguely clever but not really, and a little bit too hard work. Worth a read if you are stuck for something better.
