I found myself drawn further into the dark
My Review of Devil’s Cross (Witchfinder Series, Volume 3) by E.M.G Wixley (Narrated by Nigel Peever)
Wow! Devil’s Cross audible book is very immersive for me as a reader. The voices bring the characters alive so well and the sound effects are pretty amazing throughout this story. I loved how listening to some parts of the story made my arms go cold and the unexpected sounds made me jump in places. I think this really added to the horror and fantasy sides of this story. With each chapter, I found myself drawn further and further into the dark and emotional journey of the characters…
The story itself follows Angelica, Max, Charlie, and Kane as they are pulled into a dark demonic world. Each person affected with a dark life path of loss, addiction, and abandonments. Will the devils of the world pull them further into darkness? Or will they be able to fight their own demons and come back to a better life? You need to listen to this audible book to find out.
My favourite character was Max and his cat. The author does a great job of painting an image of an old hypnotist waiting to take Angelica deep inside her mind where he could have control of her emotions. I found his character fascinating and a bit creepy. I also liked Kane who reminded me of a sort of a shapeshifter with the wolf inside him.
I loved the description of the different parts of the land the characters were in and the cults, tribes and witch covens they belonged to. I think with such rich and imaginative lands it makes each character’s journey into a darker part of their lives believable and it’s easy to be thinking, ‘don’t do that’ ‘don’t believe him’ and ‘are you swapping one bad choice for another?’
I would recommend this audible book to those who like, very character-driven stories with well-described lands and great storytelling. I also think if you watch horror movies like Drag Me To Hell or movies about with cults, devils, and witches. This would be a book that would draw you in the same way. So why not get your copy and get dragged into the dark worlds this book has to offer…

Good VS Evil
I did enjoy listening to the story but felt all the sound effects a bit much but did go along with the story. It has multiple characters in this book, the main ones Angelica, Paul, Charlie (Angelica’s addict son), Max (hypnotist), then Saffron and her mother Scarlet, Kane, Poppy, Amber and more (stories within story). All of the characters were well developed who all have deep disturbing lives and avoiding the witch hunters (Matthew). Recommend if you enjoy dark horror fantasy and witches. Look forward to the next book and with the characters. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you

Volume 3
The characters are well develop and you can care for and will have you rooting for Saffron to show a softer side to her nature and make amends with her mother, and for wayward Charlie to make amends with h Angelica and Paul.

Kept on giving
The story continues the trend from the previous book expanding the story to an international setting without losing the dark themes or the sinister underlying atmosphere.

Same as the others!
Same narration as the second book, sound effects still cool. Still not a big fan of switch POVs in third person, but could understand it more this time. All the books have had an interesting story line, that continued in this book.

Acceptable sequel with great narration
Devil’s Cross is the third book of the Witchfinder series, written by Elizabeth M. G. Wixley. It follows up directly on the sequel in the series, introduces yet more main characters, but still focuses on the life of Kane, who seems to have settled into his new life role.
As with the previous books it is well written, and some scenes are wonderfully described. It is a direct sequel to the second book, and feels much more in line with that one, compared to the disjointed connection there was between the first and the second book in the series. Similarly to the second book, this one starts out at a much slower pace, which was very nice, and took its time setting up its new characters. The depressing themes continue, and some of the new characters and their plot lines were quite interesting, while others were too convoluted. Unfortunately, similar to Kane’s Cross, it starts loosing its focus halfway through, with too many characters to keep track off and a too complex plot that progressed too quickly, with too many unexplained questions. Kane was the main main character, and I felt he became somewhat two dimensional, and not very interesting to follow. Also, in the end, I didn’t feel like the book was concluded properly. It did set up for a sequel, which is already available, but a lot of the promises that the book and its prequel set up, wasn’t delivered in full, making it appear as a filler story.
I again listened to the audiobook, which was narrated by Alexander Misiti again. He did a marvelous job similar to what he did with the audiobook of Kane’s Cross, and I have no complaints there. Good voices, clear speech, emotional reading.
Overall, if you enjoyed the second one, then you will definitely like this one. Personally it didn’t really hit the mark completely.
I received this audiobook for free in return for a review. I have no affiliation with the author, the narrator, the publisher, or their pets (Although I am sure the latter are quite nice!).
