Summary
How did a once faceless bureaucrat, a man whose own wife said he was born under the sign of the vampire, become the idealized face of Russian manhood and its authoritarian leader? Deputy Mayor Putin examines the man behind the myth. We will explore how Putin’s formative years shaped and drove him and how the supporting cast of characters he gathered along the way helped him get to the Kremlin’s inner sanctum. We will trace Putin’s many transformations and examine how each step brought him closer to the leader he is today: from scrawny street thug to the aggressive President Putin who invaded Ukraine in early 2022.

The Real Putin
Kept me hanging on to hear what he would try next!
Seems to have been well researched, and was well presented.

Well Researched
Documents the corrupt rise and rise of one Mr. Putin of Russia, this is well researched, narrated and put together. Highly recommended if you're interested in the origins of the man we all wish had become a taxi driver.

Slow sly rise to power
This really is a slowly slowly catch a monkey.
Putin comes across as a cold calculating narcissist, which he is.
Not a lover of podcasts, but this is very well put together.
Fascinating insight, and short enough not to bore.

Fascinating insight and great storytelling
A masterful blend of factual retelling with theatrical flourishes. Too often these kinds of historical pieces err too much either way; too dry or too fluffy. This is a rare example of an audio production that knows how to walk that tightrope perfectly. An almost unbelievable story, told expertly. I devoured it.
