Summary
Justin Mallory has years of bad decisions to make up for, starting with agreeing to join the CIA after being recruited out of the marines. Now, he chooses the jobs, and he works alone. It’s safer that way, and he can make sure the good guy always wins.
But this job...he can’t do alone. Two pharmaceutical researchers are dead, and a dangerous drug is on the cusp of winning FDA approval if he doesn’t track down the culprit behind the lies and murders.
Gabriel Prescott is a well-trained, efficient, and cold-blooded killer. After a brutal betrayal left his lover dead, Gabriel is out only for himself. But when this lucrative contract lands in his lap, he can’t pass it up. Even if it means working with the unpredictable and insane Justin Mallory.
Dodging bullets and secret meetings find them depending on each other. And one hot, frantic night together leads to a hidden sweetness...and questions of whether they could possibly have something more.

exciting story, relatable characters
loved this book. didn't think I would, but the characters made it, plus the plot was believable (no cliche-ed big explosions etc). a fair bit of humour too.

as great as the ebook
The story is always full stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook.
The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. Kenneth Obi is one of the top 5 narrators (so far) for me, I can listen without break and have no problems to follow. I'm just not yet finish with the book, but I listen enough to give a review.
PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!
To my ratings:
5* - very very good
it's like an A+
4* - very good and will be often re-listening
it's like an A
3* - it's more then a one-time-listening.
it's like a B

Really good!
This is a fast-paced story, with a lot of steam. The blurb about a 'partnership' between a former CIA operative and a contract killer is what drew me in. It's a good story, with a good plot.
Kenneth Obi does a really good job with the voice characterisations, I had no trouble following the dialogue or which character was speaking. This is a good way to experience the story :)

Good start to a new series
I loved this audiobook, an excellent, imaginative plot with great characters. I can’t wait too listen to the next instalment.
Kenneth Obi is becoming one of my go to narrators and he did an excellent job with the two MC’s.

Soldiers of fortune become soulmates
Two mercs needed for a two man job. These hard men usually work alone, but find a unexpected chemistry whilst preparing for the mission. We learn to like their characters and their foibles. They kill baddies.
This is firstly a developing love story where the mission become missionary, and the job a backdrop to explore the relationship. In MM books there is a truth of passion, an honesty and a strength lacking in MF books. These men are smart and deadly (and well dressed). There is no place for stupid shenanigans.
The adventure is well written and described, beautifully narrated.
