About this listen

A darkly irresistible new fantasy set in the infamous Gomorrah Festival, a traveling carnival of debauchery that caters to the strangest of dreams and desires.

Sixteen-year-old Sorina has spent most of her life within the smoldering borders of the Gomorrah Festival. Yet even among the many unusual members of the traveling circus-city, Sorina stands apart as the only illusion-worker born in hundreds of years. This rare talent allows her to create illusions that others can see, feel, and touch, with personalities all their own. Her creations are her family, and together they make up the cast of the festival's freak show.

But no matter how lifelike they may seem, her illusions are still just that - illusions, and not truly real. Or so she has always believed...until one of them is murdered.

Desperate to protect her family, Sorina must track down the culprit and determine how they killed a person who doesn't actually exist. Her search for answers leads her to the self-proclaimed gossip-worker Luca. Their investigation sends them through a haze of political turmoil and forbidden romance and into the most sinister corners of the festival. But as the killer continues murdering Sorina's illusions one by one, she must unravel the horrifying truth before all her loved ones disappear.

Want find more from the author

Loved the idea and execution. Creative ways of writing fantasy out of the classic Tolkien realm.

Grower not a shower

I nearly gave up on this book early on, as it was so overly gloomy and melodramatic to begin with. But I'm glad I didn't, as it kept getting better as it went on. My early gripes about the magic system not being explained were dampened later as the author starts to get into the story. There were predictable bits, but also some nice twists.
I found my issue with the narration was just the volume control. It would be a whisper so I'd have to turn it up, and then all of a sudden she was shouting at full volume.

What a gem

I really enjoyed this original story. The only problem was the narrator for very screechy in places. As I listen using earphones, this was very unpleasant.
Would love it if this became a series.

Narration lets it down. .

Not a bad plot, although not exactky original either.
exander? exander? REALLY? How do you pronounce xylophone? Hmmm
It's Zander...usually short for Alexander 🙄
The author must be gritting her teeth...I know I was! PLEASE can you pay narrators who know how to narrate? So many books losing stars due to downright terrible narration. SMH

Unique paranormal mystery!

Really enjoyed this story. It had different paranormals that added intrigue and more mystery. The narrator was easy to listen to and spoke the different characters well.

Nice story shame about narrator

I always enjoy This author but could not bear the trembling screeching anxiety invoking voice of the actress I’m sure she didn’t read like this in other books I’ve listened to.

Not a bad story

I loved the sound of this but found it really hard to stay invested in listening too it, I felt it was quite slow and the ending didn’t wow me.
