Summary

New novel by the fabulous Rita Bradshaw.

On her deathbed, Lucy Fallow's mother makes her twelve-year-old daughter promise to look after her four younger siblings and keep house for her father and two older brothers. When the Fallow menfolk lose their jobs they take work wherever they can. But it's not long before they are working on the wrong side of the law and under the watchful eye of Tom McKenzie.

Meanwhile, through the hardship Lucy begins to form a relationship with Jacob McKenzie, the boy next door, and one evening they dance cheek to cheek in the moonlight and know that one day they will marry. However, as their love grows so does the resentment from Jacob's older brother Tom. He has had his eye on Lucy for years and has never understood why she doesn't fall for him like all the other girls her age. Now he knows why - his brother already has her heart. What follows is a chain of heart-breaking events where Jacob and Lucy are torn from each other's arms. Will they ever dance in the Moonlight again...?

An enchanting and captivating story.

An enchanting and captivating story, with a roller coaster of emotions as you progress through the book. The narrator had a lovely voice and will look to listen to more books read by her.

Magnificent

What a wonderful story, I cried more than once during this story, it's a real weepy in places. It brought that time to life, it made me think of my parents as they lived through the war. It made me think of my Dad as he was in North Africa. So many twists and turns. Rita Bradshaw has written a best seller in my opinion and this should be made into a film.

Dancing in the Moonlight

What made the experience of listening to Dancing in the Moonlight the most enjoyable?

Read in the local dialect in which book was set. Close to historical state of the country at the time in which it was set and so believable. I found it difficult to leave!th

The characters seemed so true to life

Have you listened to any of Anne Dover’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There were a few really, but when she took her siblings after being raped and ended up on the streets.

What a find.

I’ve never come across Rita Bradshaw before but will definitely be trying more of her novels. At times the brutality was difficult to listen to but it was an amazing read, very similar to Catherine Cookson , also a wonderful author. Ann Dover read if beautifully as she always does. Thank you both.
