Summary

A Warhammer Quest Audiobook

When a series of vicious murders rock the vampire-ruled city of Ulfenkarn, an unlikely group of heroes - a vampire hunter, a vigilante, a wizard and a soldier - must discover the truth even as the city's dread ruler takes to the streets and the bloodletting increases.

Listen to It Because

Delve into the dungeons beneath the city of Ulfenkarn and discover the story behind the board game in this tale of thrilling adventure.

The Story

Ulfenkarn is a city of nightmares. Its vampiric rulers have indulged their bloodlust in every shadow-clad alley, turning the once-proud metropolis into a charnel house. Already crushed beneath the tyranny of Radukar the Wolf and his Thirsting Court, a spate of vicious murders plunges the mortal inhabitants into fresh terror. Emerging to uncover a connection between the attacks is an unlikely group of heroes: a vampire hunter from Carstinia; a slum-born vigilante; a ruthless wizard; and a soldier who is the last survivor of her noble bloodline. Arrayed against them are the undead monsters that thrive upon Radukar's gory regime. But a daring search for answers turns into a fight for survival when the Wolf himself descends his Ebon Citadel and joins the carnage in the streets....

Written by C L Werner. Narrated by Richard Reed.

Not exactly exciting.

I had this on in the back ground as I painted my Cursed City heroes. I was hoping for inspiration and an extra layer of excitement for the game.
The narration was great, the story was pointless with just one hero mentioned until the last minute of the book. It was like the author suddenly realised he hadn't talked about this particular hero so mentioned him for the purpose of ticking a box.

Glad I didn't pay GW for the hardback copy or I would have been very disappointed.

plenty of action but can do with another book

Great story full of violence and gore. one thing that let it down was some of the voice acting for some of the shouty characters... got a bit annoying but doesn't take away from the story too much... needs a sequel

Good prequel but repetitive

Great work by the narrator to keep the listener engaged throughout what's unfortunately a bit of a repeating theme within the story, it's worth a listen if your really into the cursed city and want a little insight into the story before we kicked off in the game, that said I struggled to connect or care about the characters too much and the book uses the same formula throughout so the pacing becomes a bit of a choir ,over all not a bad book but definitely better black library material out there

Cat and Mouse Classic

Great book, a good old classic cat and mouse with the good guys trying to outsmart the bad guys.

Richard Reed was a fantastic narrator and will be looking out for more of his work.

Oh... there better be a sequel.

I thoroughly enjoyed this audio book...up until the cliffhanger ending. Richard Reed did a fantastic job bringing the story to life and I've long been a fan of CL Werner's novels and this one was wonderfully and ghoulishly entertaining. BUT wait! You can't stop there! yes I know the novel is an introduction to the games workshop board game Cursed City, I even have a copy of it myself; but come on Mr Werner. You have brought the characters to life and made Wulfencarn a real and dread city. PLEASE finish the job. I'll be gutted otherwise and I can't recommend thus novel until people have checked the Black Library have published the next instalment of this exciting series.

Interesting location awful ending

What a bad ending, I know it sets up the board game but geez it just sort of ends.

Enjoyable

I really wanted this to be a great tale!

Sadly it was rather repetitive.

Main characters protected by plot armour. Etc

However i’d still read a sequel.

A prologue to Cursed City game

The book takes you to Ulfenkarn, where Radukar the Wolf has held the city hostage and reigns with terror. People live there on the edge of dying. Some people want the wolf gone. And thats what this book is about.

If you want to play the game with the same title, or love a story about a vampire hunter, soldier and wizard who wants to take out a vampire then this is a book for you. As a bonus during the first couple of chapters there are interludes with the perspective of the inhabitants of Ulfenkarn.

I really enjoyed the narrator he builds the characters and gives them their own voices. His voice is very pleasant to listen to.
