Summary

As a leader in teaching, training, and transforming boys in Detroit, Jason Wilson shares his own story of discovering what it means to “be a man” in this life-changing memoir.

His grandfather’s lynching in the deep South, the murders of his two older brothers, and his verbally harsh and absent father all worked together to form Jason Wilson’s childhood. But it was his decision to acknowledge his emotions and yield to God’s call on his life that made Wilson the man and leader he is today.

As the founder of one of the country’s most esteemed youth organizations, Wilson has decades of experience in strengthening the physical, mental, and emotional spirit of boys and men. In Cry Like a Man, Wilson explains the dangers men face in our culture’s definition of “masculinity” and gives listeners hope that healing is possible.

As Wilson writes, “My passion is to help boys and men find strength to become courageously transparent about their own brokenness as I shed light on the symptoms and causes of childhood trauma and ‘father wounds’. I long to see men free themselves from emotional incarceration - to see their minds renewed, souls weaned, and relationships restored.”

Through honesty and vulnerability Wilson extends to recount his life thus offering insight, perspective and a accompanying friend on this journey of life.

A brilliant book to understand what it means to be a man and ultimately; how to cry and let your emotions find a place of refuge.

HEARTFELT!

An awesome account of a man's journey through emotional development... It challenges what it is to be a "strong" man or a "real" man. This was a great listen! 🖤

A blessing to read

I saw one of his posts online and I cried due to the opportunity for vulnerability that was present. Inspired by his philosophy both from The Word and his own life, it encouraged me to get the book to in turn, help myself to therefore help others. Its... scary to see how much we carry and more so why we need to carry the responsibilities of our lives, but it's truly heart warming and appreciated to know its ok to cry or in turn, be human. Thank Mr Wilson.

A MEN'S MUST READ!

I'm in no way religious and yes this book is grounded in his faith but the message within this book transcends his spiritual alignment it asks you to look within yourself in order to begin your healing process as a MALE young or old

ENCOURAGING, INSPIRING!

I found Jason’s story to be quite healing and hope-inspiring too. Many men in today’s society can identify with father wounds therefore, this book would be very helpful to them. This is a narrative that many more should hear about!

A book for men especially black men

Loved the book and the stories. The vulnerability of Jason to open up. It must have been hard. It was full of stories that can help and make you see there’s always hope. Wish there were more anecdotes. Is there a course for this? Will really love to sign up
