Critically Underachieving
I really wanted this book to wow me...but unfortunately the title is misleadingly overstated.
The book offers basic knowledge regarding critical thinking and persuasion, which wouldn't have been an issue if the title had stated the fact. There is a chapter titled A beginner's guide to critical thinking, a title best suited for the book in my opinion. The narrative sometimes repeats which is concerning, for example the overall benefits of critical thinking are best stated in the intro and then left there not to be repeated just to emphasize the pertinance of practical points or chapters.
Furthemore, a few errors in reference such as 'Sarcastic questioning' as opposed to the correct Socratic questioning (coined after Socrates and his development of critical thinking) which for me reduces the authors credibility on the subject. To end my negative perspective of this book, I would warn the listener that the narration sounds terribly amature. The narrator is fine, but the sound quality is desperately poor, to suggest that the narrator is speaking via Skype is probably being kind plus the volume frequently dips up and down just to add insult to injury.
That all said and done, this book does possess very insightful knowledge for those new to critical thinking, plus the book offers some particular usefull advice for specific audiences such as students.
Overall, I gave this book three stars mainly due to its technical performance, however one final critical proof read of this book may have gained it a 4 or even 5 stars had the repitition and more concise referencing been addressed before publishing.

So…what?
Strange book. It’s a book i would give to aliens if they invaded earth. Factual without being insightful, is it aimed at school kids? I don’t know who would benefit from this. Kind of like reading out a dictionary..every other word is ‘critical thinking’ for half the book and there is little meat to actually chew. Then suddenly we have a deeply thought through guide to seduction and then a story on Ted Bundy. Some interesting bits but just a bit odd. Was expecting more high level and deeper…I would get this for a teenager I guess that’s the level. Better books out there on this matter.
