A bright spark
I loved this and think it is a great way to get in the Christmas spirit or just enjoy a good story anytime of the year. You get double the fun with this book and what fun it is. A great addition to the Maizie Albright series. If this is your first time with Maizie then it is a great way to get an introduction to two very different stories set at Christmas and at the same time if you are familiar with the books then it is a great way to catch up between stories with some great characters.
A View to a Chill
I love the fact that this book features both the main characters from the authors books, Maizie Albright and Cherry Tucker. Each chapter is told by the two characters, as they find themselves both investigating the same case. Each character brings her own unique style to the mystery and I hope the author has plans for them to meet up again. The mystery was interesting and worked really well for the characters.
Cherry Tucker is not a big fan of Christmas but even she doesn't want to spend the whole time in bed suffering from the flu. Especially when the only thing to keep her awake is the strange goings on in the house next door.
At the same time Maizie Albright is horrified when her boss turns away a little old lady looking for her Grand daughter just before Christmas. She takes the case herself and finds herself sitting out side a house waiting for the elderly ladies sister to return home. When she doesn't put in an appearance and the police are to busy investigating a bank robbery and hostage situation, Maizie puts her holiday plans on hold to do some sleuthing, can she track down the granddaughter and the home owner? And can Cherry shake off her delusions and get someone to believe her, that everything is not right next door.
17.5 Cartridges in a Pear Tree
Maizie's sister Remi steals the show in this book. I just love the feisty take no prisoners little girl and the antics and gets up to. Well worth the listen and a great way to put a smile on your face. The mystery was a lot of fun and pays homage to noir type films.
Maizie finds herself looking after her little step sister over new years eve, when her father leaves her in charge. Things only get complicated when they arrive at the private detective agency where Maizie works and finds a woman looking for a movie prop that Maizie gave her father. But she is not the only one looking for the necklace. Can Maizie out smart some kidnappers, a knife wielding elf and keep hold of her father's unusual Christmas present. Oh and keep her little sister out of trouble?
I liked the narrator. She brings the story to life and is a pleasure to listen too.
