Summary
Stan can't afford to have his brain removed. The richest and luckiest players of the video game "Thousand Tales" get their minds uploaded to its virtual paradise world, while Stan can barely buy a handheld console. Instead of sulking he plays, and grows, becoming a skilled craftsman and a seafaring explorer.
The game's ruling AI, Ludo, helps him find the hope and inspiration missing from his real life. When the AI starts asking for favors and having him reach out between the real and digital worlds, Stan has a chance to turn his life into an actual adventure. But first he needs to earn the most valuable prize of all: his freedom.
Crafter's Passion is part of the emerging "LitRPG" or "GameLit" genre, combining science-fiction with the world of gaming.

As a gamer, I thoroughly enjoyed this story.
Please Note: I try to avoid spoilers in my reviews, and my Audible reviews are completely based on the audio book, not the written format. As such, the reviews are heavily influenced by the narration.
Additional Note: Plot contains dystopian scenes. While I can understand the criticism I have seen in other people's reviews on this story, I personally felt like there were no issues. Yes, certain points raised in the story were done dramatically, but it didn't seem to be jarringly so. Please take that into consideration when considering this audio book... onto the review:
Vocal Quality:
I have no qualms over the narration in this book. I could easily understand the words spoken without issue. I truly enjoyed the audio, but I must point out that I imagine some people may not gel with the narrator. Christopher James Mayer is the only voice heard in the track, and as politely as I can put it his voice is not going to be to everyone's standards. There is a not exactly an attempt to make each character stand apart, as the narrator obviously knows they wouldn't have the vocal range to pull that off. All of the voices have his distinct vocal intonation, but it was very well performed. Assuming that the style isn't an issue for you (it certainly wasn't for me) then it also won't stand out either. I would suggest you check out the sample audio to know what I mean, as in text this seems hard to explain.
Sounds / Effects:
There were no noticeable digital enhancements (Jingles, sound cues, etc) in this book, as each scene relied on audio description. The quality of this description matched the vocal quality. Chapters were clearly marked. It should also be noted that the game world sounds were vocally descriptive and immersive.
Pace:
While the chapters of this story are fairly long (typically over half hour each at least) the plot moved at a good speed. As such, even though the chapters were long they didn't feel out of place. The reading speed had no noticeable speed changes, and the narration quality remained consistent throughout the story. This book was performed professionally, and I was able to use the default playback speed throughout the recording. No adjustments required and no difficulty in following alongside the speaker.
Overall:
All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed the performance that Christopher James Mayer gave to this story, and as I've stated the narrator knows their limits and works well within them. I also enjoyed the actual content by Kris Schnee. As the audio was descriptive, it relied on the strength of the words being spoken just as much as the narration. I found it a little disheartening that other audio books from this author are narrated by a different person, but I'm sure they have their reasons. I think the narration style actually benefited the plot, as the vocal style helped flesh out the character and added to the experience. I would therefore highly recommend both the writer and the narrator in their own merit.
