Summary
A US Marshal Thriller
US Deputy Marshal Dirk Sterling is tasked with the near-impossible and perilous mission of capturing Beaux Crandall, an elusive fugitive and former mogul on the FBI's most wanted list. Crandall, a mastermind of vice with charges ranging from money laundering to illegal firearms and child pornography, broke his pre-trial release conditions and disappeared without a trace. Crandall is rumored to be hiding out in a small rural town in Montana.
As Sterling delves into the case, he also grapples with a tangled web of personal relationships and unresolved emotions. From navigating unwanted feelings for his boss, Chief Deputy Emory Grey, to wrestling with the volatile emotions surrounding his late partner's widow and her son, Sterling is pushed to his limits both personally and professionally.
Against the breath-taking backdrop of the Montana mountains, Sterling and his rookie partner, Hank Flannigan, find themselves entangled in a web of deception, danger, and desire. When Crandall escalates his criminal operations and kidnaps a local woman, Sterling must orchestrate a daring plan. Risking his life, he battles to bring Crandall to justice.

Dirk Sterling at his finest!
This is another great story from Jodi.
The 2nd in the Dirk Stirling series, her needs to use all his wits and abilities to bring his target to justice.
Chasing a truly horrendous individual, who is into everything from gun running to child abduction, Dirk balances both the needs of the job with personal challenges for himself and his colleagues.
In this book we learn a little more about some of the people Dirk works with and also have a nice reintroduction to some of those from book 1 of the series.
I'm not going to give anything more away other than to say that Jodi, as usual, takes you on a wild ride not just to catch the criminals but also to draw you into the characters as whole people, with their challenges, flaws and beneficial characteristics.
The story is well read with the narrator being interest and inflection throughout.
Can't wait to find out what is next for Dirk and his colleagues.

Very good
So, book two in the series and what a fantastic listen it is. It’s probably even better than book one and that was a cracker. There is always something going on to keep you listening from the first word to the last, a finish I might add which again I didn’t see coming. Highly recommended listen.
