About this listen
Shocked...but not shattered.
After my friend Taran led his girlfriend Merith to Arda Academy, our lives were left shaken like figures in a snow globe. My little sister Clare, always high strung and anti-social, now hides herself away with her piano, drowning her devastation in music and solitude. As class president and a role model for other students, I have no such luxury, forcing myself instead to face the truth head on. My best friend Danica remains at my side, her tough as nails exterior resolved to support me as I struggle to control my magical power, but will she ever let me close to the girl beneath, the one I have loved since the moment we met?
*
Kyle Thorne has everyone's back. His classmates and friends know they can count on him, but the pressure to be perfect after the chaos brought into Arda Academy when Merith Leigh brought her personal battle into the school is overwhelming. The two most important girls in his life have the power to both devastate and defend him: his younger sister Clare, always unreachable and distant; and his best friend Danica, strong and sure, and also completely unaware of his love for her. When his efforts to control his unique magic fail as his confidence plummets, will Clare and Danica be able to give him the strength he needs to stop another disaster from destroying Arda when it is at its weakest?

MC changes!
Book 2 changes the MC. It goes to the brother this time. You still get some of your old favorite couple but now you see the story playing out in another sibling’s mind! I do think that the new MC focuses on something for way to long ( no spoilers ) and it got a bit too drawn out and annoying but in the end stuff was done. We are still left with so many questions though!

Book 2 in the Arda Academy Series Flies
I really enjoyed all the extra details 'Consort of Spells' provided however again we had a tidy ending to Book 2 with no cliffhangers (yay) but with a lot of mysteries still to be unveiled. I loved the little hints throughout the novel. Looking forward to reading the next installment and connecting with another one of the siblings in a deep way.
Unfortunately I could not connect with a female narrator where all 100% of the voice and perpective in the book is male. It made no sense despite Caolyn Kashner being excellent. This issue distracted me from the central story and I think the pacing issues and lower level of coherence I noted would have been greatly improved by a male narrator. As well as that change, some more comprehensive editing across the board including a clear progressive develoment of the central romantic realtionship would have added value. It was not as convincing or compelling as the connections in Book 1.
Despite these minor criticisms I highly recommend this fresh and creative series if you are looking for something totally new and creative..

Good story
I still like the storyline and the characters. They have grown since book 1 and I love having stories that tell it from multiple character view points. Im not a huge fan of the narrator but thats a personal preference. I'd still recommend this series for a good listen.
