Summary

There was never any question that I would be there for him.

I've known him since we were kids. We were best friends, sharing everything - until I made a mistake and got a girl pregnant. Pretty soon, I was a single dad while I was still a kid myself. Our friendship suffered. He joined the military. And I thought I'd never get another chance to let him know what he really means to me.

Now he's back, reeling from the loss of his newborn baby's father, and he needs a place to stay while he settles back into parenthood and small town living. I won't pressure him. I won't rush him. And if he's still not interested, I'll let him go. But I'll be damned if I won't hold on to this second chance with the best friend I thought I’d lost long ago.

Welcome to Blackwater, Montana - a small town with a big personality, where shifters and humans coexist. Claimed By The Soldier is a dual point of view shifter audiobook with mpreg, an unexpected inheritance, and a guaranteed happy ending. The fifth in this series, this audiobook can also be enjoyed as a standalone.

Brill

This is a brilliant childhood best friend to lovers story following Pax and Zayne they both have baggage to deal with when they meet up again. After spending time together I like the fact that they finally admit their feelings for each other and we find out some interesting information.

Sweet second chance friends to lovers story

This is a sweet, second chance, friends-to-lovers story. There are mistakes, a little angst, some pining, separation, reconnection, fated mates, hot sex, and finding/making your family. Loved the HEA.

The narration didn’t really appeal to me. The characters all seemed to me to sound like hicks and the speed seemed really slow. Just a personal preference. I liked it better when I read it myself. I suggest you listen to the sample and decide for yourself.

Childhood friends to lovers, second chance romance

Loved this reunion story.
Zayne left Pax behind and both men suffered because of it.
Now they're back in each other's orbit as single father's and Zayne feels woefully unprepared.
Pax takes them in and is honestly only trying to be a friend but those pesky unresolved feelings kerp getting in the way.
Absolutely beautiful seeing these men be so brave and vulnerable with one another and let go of all that extraneous baggage they've carried around for years.
Anton Rush did a pretty decent job of bringing these characters to life.

So sweet!

I loved audiobooks as a opportunity to re-read my favorite books. Sometimes this also gave me the opportunity to compare stories, couples and even family’s dynamic. Zayne and Pax, in my opinion, is one of the sweetest couple of the series and I enjoyed their interactions a lot. Mr Rush made a wonderful job with his narration, catching all the innuendos in their relationship in a very accurate performance. A great book!

Sweet

Liam Kingsley did good work with this story but Anton Rush did not do it for me. Still an enjoyable listen.

A second chance for friends...

Before I get into the meat of this review I’d just like to talk about the narrator, Anton Rush. Firstly, Mr. Rush did a great job of narrating this novel. I didn’t find anything wrong with the performance at all. Despite that, I didn’t enjoy this book as much as could have with another reader. My problem is entirely based on my personal preference concerning narration. Mr. Rush’s voice makes me picture a sweet old man, sitting in a rocking chair on the front porch of a farmhouse, reminiscing about days long past. That’s not a bad thing! I think his reading style would be wonderful for a different type of book. But, when it comes to reading m/m sex scenes, it just felt wrong listening to something so intimate. Like I said though, this was a personal preference. Before purchasing, I suggest you listen to the sample to make sure you’ll enjoy it.

Now, onto my thoughts about the story!

Claimed by the Soldier is a sweet story about old friends becoming lovers. Pax Quintero and Zayne Bridges were close childhood friends who shared everything with each other except for their mutual attraction. When they were fifteen, Pax accidentally knocked up a girl he was seeing which resulted in his daughter, Mia. The friendship between the two boys suffered after that. Zayne struggled a lot knowing that his friend was straight and moving forward with his life as a father. So, when he turned eighteen, Zayne left Blackwater to join the military and escape the unrequited love he harbored for Pax.

Flash forward ten years later and Zayne’s back in Blackwater with his one-month-old daughter, Hope. Hope’s Alpha dad, and Zayne’s friend, died in combat before Hope was even born. So, Zayne’s just trying to get his feet beneath him after leaving the military and becoming a single parent. His wolf insisted he come back home to find himself again. Only, as soon as he gets there, his path crosses with Pax’s, and the two men reach out to find that old friendship. The one thing they didn’t expect to find was the simmering love still thrumming through them from days long gone.

This book was so sweet! Pax was more than willing to reach out and help his old friend, despite how things went when Zayne left Blackwater. There were no bad feelings linger because Zayne left, just a willingness to look past that and move forward as friends. I loved seeing how things progressed between the MCs. It was obvious both of them were nose over tail for each other even after all those years apart. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as obvious for them to see right away.

The cast of characters was great. Both Zayne and Pax are loveable characters unique in their ways. They come from different backgrounds and family lives, but they grew up being very similar. I loved that Pax was raising Mia to know the value of a dollar. She wants a car, but Pax says the only way he’ll help her get one is if she puts up half of the downpayment. I thought that was wonderful! I also really liked Pax’s parents. They accept Zayne and Hope into the family without a second thought. I even really liked Hank’s parents although they come across as the bad guys at first.

This was such a wonderful little read. As I mentioned above, if the narrator was different I would have liked this book even more. The story was sweet. There was friendship, love, laughter, worries, and a happy ever after. I’d recommend this audiobook if you’re a fan of Liam Kingsley’s work. I’d just advise you to check the sample of the book to see if the narrator is okay for you. If you don’t mind the narrator and you like the author, I’m sure you’ll enjoy Claimed by the Soldier.

Creating a family

I have been reading some wonderfully dark and angsty fiction lately and I wanted a bit of a change from that. This was the perfect palate cleanser! Pax and Zayne were in a relationship as young men, but when Pax made a life altering decision, Zayne left to join the military. Pax (what a totally appropriate name for this lovely man) steps up and is raising his daughter as a single man when Zayne arrives with his daughter also single and totally overwhelmed by a responsibility he feels ill equipped for. Pax takes him in and provides the peace his name implies for Zayne and his daughter. This is a book about how families develop, what children and their parents need and the joy to be found in loving and nurturing one another. Just as with Claiming My Co-Worker in this series, we have characters acting like mature adults not creating artificial melodrama for themselves. A cozy, hot, happy ever after for two long-time friends who finally get to become so much more. Anton Rush's performance was excellent. He captured the calmness of Pax and Zayne's progression from overwhelmed to secure with his created family expertly.

Great story

I really enjoyed this story. I love single dads and best friends. I thought it was hot, sexy and enjoyable to listen to. I liked the dual point of view and I enjoyed Anton Rush’s voice, pace and how he changed voice between characters. I recommend this audiobook.

Pax and Zane

Pax and Zane were school best friends, both having crushes on each other, not knowing about the other. Pax at 16 has a baby girl Mia, which forces Zane to join the Army. 15 yrs later he arrives back with a baby daughter of his own. It's fun to watch them realise they love one another and the girls are wonderful sister's. Great book
