About this listen
Zoe Chambers, paramedic and deputy coroner in rural Pennsylvania's tight-knit Vance Township, has been privy to a number of local secrets over the years, some of them her own. But secrets become explosive when a dead body is found in the Township Board president's abandoned car. As a January blizzard rages, Zoe and Police Chief Pete Adams launch a desperate search for the killer, even if it means uncovering secrets that could not only destroy Zoe and Pete but also those closest to them.

Secrets never stay buried
This is the first book I have read or listened to by this author but it won't be my last, I really enjoyed it and was hooked right from the start. It's a more serious book than all the normal cosy mysteries I have been listening to lately but it was nice to have a more professional sleuth involved. Zoe is a great main character, kind, caring, good at her job (even when she doesn't want to be) and I enjoyed getting to know her. There was a lot going on with the story and I was shocked when the first murder victim was discovered, which with all the books I read or listen too is unusual. I did think that maybe the book wasn't go to be for me because it was going to get sad but I couldn't stop listening ( oh and I didn't need a tissue). I had guessed the motive but was wrong with the suspect. I really enjoyed this book but the ending took it up a notch as it reached it dramatic conclusion. I am off to get the next book.
Tension in the small town Zoe calls home is high, when the president of the Township Board pushes for changes and decisions people don't like. Like arresting Zoe's best friends mother-in-law for theft of an old obsolete police computer. Then a body is discovered in the snow, abandoned in somebody else's car and things go from bad to worse for her friend. With a murder on his hands, a theft and a missing boy the big boys step in and take the case away from Police Chief Pete Adams, especially with his connection to the suspects. This doesn't stop him investigating and with Zoe's help they try to piece how everything is connected but the more they learn the more she fears her friends heart will be shattered.
I liked the narrator. I had no problems telling the characters apart and she did some good voices for both male and female, old and young she had everybody covered.
