George Sand (1804-1876) se marie à dix-huit ans. Après la naissance de ses deux enfants, elle décide de vivre indépendante. Elle devient alors journaliste. En 1832, le succès de son premier roman Indiana lui assure les moyens de vivre comme elle le voulait, de sa création.
