Summary
For James Bond and the British Secret Service, the stakes couldn’t be higher. 007’s mission is to neutralise the Russian operative Le Chiffre by ruining him at the baccarat table, forcing his Soviet masters to ‘retire’ him. When Le Chiffre hits a losing streak, Bond discovers his luck is in – that is, until he meets Vesper Lynd, a glamorous agent who might yet prove to be his downfall.
Includes an exclusive bonus interview with Dan Stevens.
Ian Fleming was born in London in 1908. He was educated at Eton and worked as a journalist in Moscow and a banker and stockbroker in London before becoming personal assistant to the Director of Naval Intelligence during the Second World War. He wrote his first Bond novel, Casino Royale, in 1952 at Goldeneye, his home in Jamaica. Since then James Bond has gone on to become a global phenomenon.
Dan Stevens is internationally known for his role as Matthew Crawley in the hit television drama Downton Abbey, and more recently he has starred in films including Summer In February, The Fifth Estate, A Walk Among the Tombstones, The Guest, The Cobbler and Night At The Museum 3. Dan’s other screen work includes Vamps, Hilde, Sense & Sensibility, Maxwell and The Line of Beauty, and his theatre work includes The Heiress on Broadway, and Arcadia, Every Good Boy Deserves Favour, The Vortex and Hay Fever in London.

The real Bond.
So much more insightful than any of the films. The narration was excellent and vividly portrayed the characters allowing your mind to paint the picture.

Interesting comparison listen
Of course I've seen all the Bond films, and the new version of this is one of my favourites, so I found it quite interesting to listen to the book it was based on.
I was surprised at how closely the film sticks with the book, in essentials at least if not in detail.
I also get the impression that the book influences the way that Daniel Craig played the part of Bond in the film too.
As far as the book is concerned, it's short and to the point. There isn't much, if any extraneous narrative apart from the more introspective scenes in the third part of the book.
I'm looking forward to seeing the stories progress as part of a series, rather than stand alone books. I'm sure that they can stand on their own, but the greater story arc, if there is one, should be interesting.

Casino Royale
Good story of James Bond but a bit dated. Not like the Ian Fleming film

Dan Stevens IS the Bond we need.
Casino Royale can be a little tricky to follow at first, with the many French words and the rules of the game, but Dan Stevens' cool narration and portrayal of Bond really sells the whole thing.

Excellent
Brings life to a character I have only known via the screen. Dan was a perfect narrator, neither too animated or solemn.

Great Narrations
The story gets running straight away but unless you understand the game being played it is alot of meaningless words. The pacing of the book felt a bit odd to me as well. Dan Stevens as the narrator was amazing, I do enjoy it when a well known actor does an audio book and puts effort into it, he even offers some words after he finishes reading.
