Summary

Book six of the Ciaphas Cain series

The Imperium's most unlikely hero is back, reluctantly returning to the front line and hoping his luck will hold out!

Listen to it because: this entry from the Cain Archives takes the Hero of the Imperium into his greatest - and possibly last - battle. He's an old man in this one, pulled out of retirement for one last mission as the hordes of Chaos close in on the Imperium....

The story: after a long and distinguished career defending the Imperium from its many enemies, Commissar Cain is enjoying a well-deserved retirement on Perlia, teaching in a schola progenium. But when a Black Crusade threatens the sector, all able-bodied citizens must rise to the defence, including Cain and his cadets. As the forces of Chaos overwhelm Perlia, can the wily commissar prove himself to be a real hero of the Imperium one last time?

Written by Sandy Mitchell. Running time 10 hours and 31 minutes. Performed by Stephen Perring, Penelope Rawlins, Richard Reed, John Banks and Phillipe Bosher.

Old man Cain

while managing both to establish sevral supporting charakters and use them in ways that aktualy advance the plot. seeing Cain from something close to the perspective vere the narrative tool called the Cain arkives. sertantly enjoyable and I found myself aktualy surprised a handfulle of times and lauthing/grinning quite often.

Plot twist

Loved the ending 2 or 3 minutes, but of course the rest was, as usual, amazeballs as some might say ;)

Loved the nod to Dads army!

Another great story following the "Cad of the imperium" and his trusty tea cup wielding side kick.
Well worth it.
Narration was excellent.
Maybe the vox castes were a little forced but hey .. it's a Cain story. 5 *

OK stuff

Not as fun as earlier Cain stories, there is nevertheless an enjoyable variation in plotline and, at this point, returning to Cain is like returning to an old friend.

4 stars. Because I like Cain. 3 stars for anyone new to the series or the setting.

Another great cover of Ciaphas Cain

Honestly I can’t wait each time I finish these books for the next one. Cains adventures are alway funny and well written, I can’t wait for the next one with the space marines.

I won’t spoil the book but honestly listen to it it’s great if you have not listen to all the others first.

Great as always!

Great as always though something seems to happen to the narrators voice around the 8 hours mark. But he’s still very enjoyable.
