Summary
C.A.E.C.O. is book 15 in best-selling author John Conroe's Demon Accords series.
Combat is literally her middle name. Chimeric Adaptive Enhanced Combat Operator - but now Caeco Jensen - works for the FBI, building a new life and trying to learn from a painful past. It’s hard to fit in when you are one of a kind, but maybe, just maybe, there’s a place for her in this world. That is, if threats from off planet don’t ruin it first. Forging and protecting a new future with a her unique skillset won’t be easy, maybe almost as hard as making new friends.

Good guys
I’d been disappointed by Caeco’s role, or lack thereof, in the last few books of the series and the turn her character seemed to be taking. However, I Really enjoy the fact that Conroe’s key characters are ‘good’ people and that Caeco is one of them. It gets depressing when so many books focus on the dark side of human nature so I find the Demon Accords a breath of fresh air.

A good side-story from an unseen perspective.
This book is a good continuation of the Demon Accords story, told from the perspective of CAECO Jensen. You can see a little more into her backstory in this book, but it still continues on from the last book’s previous events.

a return to normal and ties up loose ends
after caeco fell out of the main story in what felt like an unecessarily ugly way, this story goes a long way to fill in the gaps and "redeem" things. it does try very hard to reinforce the stacia/ declan connection but does at least give caeco a perspective.
i in some ways prefer her and declan to stacia but this story gives her much more agency and drive, giving her far more character and not treating her like a sidekick or plot device. it also opens up many more avenues for side stories and to grow the demon accords world.
a routine investigation goes deep into infiltration of the government and we get a good return to supernatural detective work. as ever a great story narrated brilliantly.

Side story
Usually in a series of books I skip these types of side story books which seem to function as a method of character development so that they are more impactful on the main story line but I decided to give this a try. I was happy with my decision and now I have decided not to overlook these stories in the future.
