About this listen

One kid’s horrific journey behind the walls of maximum security and the price he paid for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Survival is just the beginning.

Dylan is 18, scared, and sent to maximum security. The crime? Passed out drunk in the backseat of a car after his 18th birthday celebration.

If he doesn’t fight, he dies. If he doesn’t run drugs, he dies. The Jesters have murdered his brother and recruited his cellmate, and this is now home.

Welcome to MAX. There is no escape.

This is the graphic opening chapter of the MAX series, an often raw and brutal story of survival. If you like your audiobooks fast-paced, gripping, and original, then you’ll love this new and exciting crime thriller series.

Interview with the Author

Q: What makes the MAX series so special?
A: It has to be the authenticity. Having the experience of seeing inside a real maximum-security prison and witnessing not only the inner workings but also the raw brutality, it gives this series so much more punch. I mean, when you read the latest crime thriller, you may wonder whether the events could actually happen. With this series, I have tried my very best to keep the emotions, the violence, and the environment as true to life as I possibly could, and I think that’s what attracts so many people to these books. Some actually wonder whether it really is fictional or not.

Q: Who are these books perfect for?
A: For me personally, I often dislike getting bogged down by a lot of meaningless fluff. Give me the story and let’s get on with it. The feedback I have received from so many readers is that they love my books because I never give them a chance to relax. The action, the violence, and the personal conflicts in the MAX series never really let up. As far as a thriller series goes, this one is there if you love edge-of-your-seat storytelling without the filler.

Q: So, just how real are the events in the series?
A: There are several sequences in the book that actually happened to me whilst working in the prison. Whilst very confronting at the time, they do serve a greater purpose as well--a reminder that prison life is tough, regardless of which side of the fence you stand on.

Simon king is a genius

For someone who only normally only listens to non fiction I was blown away by this.
Simon’s knowledge of the prison system really comes through in this. I totally forgot I was listening to book at times it felt more like I was watching Netflix classic

Wow!

What a book. As someone who doesn’t usually listen to fiction, I can safely say that Simon has completely changed my mind about the genre. The twists and turns never end, the narrator is superb and the book is so well written that I finished the whole 14 hours in 2 sittings! I recommend this gripping novel one hundred per cent and cannot wait for the next one.

One of the best books I’ve ever read

From start to finish - this book had me gripped. Just when I thought things couldn’t get any worse for the main character, a curve-ball emerged! Simon is an exceptional author and his experience working as a Prison Officer gives this fictional book the depth that only he could give.
