Summary
Set during England's bloody and brutal War of the Roses, this is the second novel in an epic historical fiction series. If you liked Conn Iggulden's Stormbird, you will love Toby Clements' Kingmaker novels.
October 1463. England is a divided nation. In the north the Lancastrian king struggles to hold power while in the south the princes of the house of York prepare for war. Across this land, pursued by the church and the law, a young man, Thomas, and a young woman, Catherine, make their way, bearing proof of a secret both sides will kill to learn.
Bent on revenge for a past outrage, Thomas and Catherine journey to the mighty castle of Bamburgh to join a weakening king as he marshals his army to take up arms in one of the most savage civil wars in history: the War of the Roses.

Another excellent Kingmaker story
Another excellent Kingmaker story. I loved this sequel which can be harrowing and brutal, but also completely engrossing. The characters & descriptions of historical times/wars/regal machinations are well written and vividly brought to life by the narrator. Routed for Thomas & Catherine especially at the cliffhanger end, can't wait to listen to the next book. I love to read/listen to a historical drama and this series is brilliant.. Unputdownable. It would be great to see if this would be made into a TV series.

Embroiled in the 15th Century
I cannot wait for the final chapter. It is simply truly excellent and narrated. It brought north east England even more alive having visited the three predominant fortresses in that region many times, With this book they are even more vibrant with the smells, sounds and visualisations the tapestry the book so wonderfully paints of these ancient times.

Great Listen
I think Jack Hawkins' voice is great for the task. I thoroughly enjoyed the 1st book (Winter Pilgrims) and the 2nd is equally as good. I am downloading the 3rd as I type!

Broken Faith
The Second in this series by Toby Clements is as good as the first. The detail is incredible and beautifully narrated. I can’t wait to visit the castles and sites described.

A tremendous follow up.
A marvellous story, engaging and compelling from beginning to end. Violent sanguine, urine soaked adventure.
The reader is perfect voicing characters to perfection.

Truly a breath taking journey taking us to another world in a different place but all instantly recognisable characters we see today where the privileged gain from the under privileged and life is never fair to ordinary people - stunning!

An excellent Sequel
Really enjoyed the time listening to the story so far and I am downloading episode 3 as I type this review. I had intended to listen to the next instalment on holiday but as that is 2 weeks away I will have to rethink.
