Summary

Jennifer Saunders' comic creations have brought joy to millions. From Comic Strip to Comic Relief, from Bolly-swilling Edina in Ab Fab to her takes on Madonna or Mamma Mia, her characters are household names. But it's Jennifer herself who has a place in all our hearts. This is her funny, moving, and frankly bonkers memoir, filled with laughter, friends, and occasional heartache - but never misery.

Bonkers is full of riotous adventures: accidentally enrolling on a teacher training course with a young Dawn French, bluffing her way to each BBC series, shooting Lulu, trading wild faxes with Joanna Lumley, touring India with Ruby Wax and Goldie Hawn. There's cancer, too, when she becomes 'Brave Jen'. But her biggest battle is with the bane of her life: the Laws of Procrastination. As she admits, "There has never been a Plan. Everything has been fairly random, happened by accident or just fallen into place. I'm off now, to do some sweeping..." Prepare to chuckle, whoop, and go bonkers.

What did you like most about Bonkers?

Jennifer Saunders reading her own book worked so well.... I loved the footnotes and rants.

What did you like best about this story?

I listened to this went out running and couldn't wait to continue the story. I liked the conversational style and how it shifted around different time zones

Loved the fax conversations with "Jack" and Betty Jackson

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Made me laugh.....loved the bit when Jennifer says that when her and Aide aren't with Freddie, they are looking at pictures of him!!! Brought a tear to my eye at the end when she thanks those around her.

Brilliantly read. An enjoyable listen.

Would you consider the audio edition of Bonkers to be better than the print version?

Definitely. I never read autobiographies - I just don't find them interesting but this feels like Jennifer Saunders is just chatting to you and telling you some fun or intriguing anecdotes about things she has done.

What did you like best about this story?

I don't think it is a full and exact account of her life - just some interesting bits and I think that's great in an autobiography.

What does Jennifer Saunders bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

She reads it as she meant it to sound and it's great. I missed hearing her voice in the car on the way to/from work when it ended!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Well, it's not a sad book so I didn't get upset at all. There were several bits which made me laugh out loud (unlike me!), especially her account of procrastinating on a grand scale while writing a movie for Goldie Hawn.

Any additional comments?

Surprisingly good - I only bought it because it was on special offer but it ended up one of the most enjoyable listens I have had.

Wonderful biography

Funny, moving, and some more funny. The fact that Jennifer Saunders reads it herself makes this a joyous way to spend a few hours.

Total joy.

This was the first autobiography I read (or listened to) and I loved it the first time, but after coming back to it after listening to loads more I realise just how good it is. Real heart, funny, jut the right length and so well read.

Absolutely Fabulous! (had to do it!)

Loved this book, it really feels like you're having a friendly chat with Jen over a glass of wine. its funny, insightful and sounds like she really has enjoyed her life and where it has taken her. She is never boastful and seems to genuinely love her friends and family. Really warm and touching, anyone who is a fan will love it.
