About this listen
As seen on the Emmy Award-winning TV show - Leah Remini - Scientology & the Aftermath
Nominated by Foreword Magazine as 2009 Book of the Year Award Finalist
Marc Headley provides an insider's view of life as a member of Scientology's "Sea Organization". Marc worked at Scientology's secret desert compound, which houses all Scientology management, for 15 years. The 500-acre property is located deep in the California desert. The local townspeople were told lectures and films were made there. But is that all that was happening? It is the location of a multi-million-dollar home for L. Ron Hubbard, built two decades after his death. It is the home of Scientology's current leader, David Miscavige.
So what really happens at the Int Base? Are the stories on the Internet true? How does Scientology conduct management of its day-to-day operations? Could stories of armed guards, weapons, staff beatings, and razor-wire fences be true? If so, how could a facility like this exist in modern-day America?
Hundreds of staff tried to escape over the years. Some succeeded but were never seen or heard of again; most failed. Why were people kept here? What really went on at the headquarters of Scientology? This is the story of what happened behind the Iron Curtain of Scientology.
"...the Scientology cult, is I guarantee you, a thousand times more bizarre than you could have ever imagined." (The John & Ken Show, KFI AM 640)
"Headley's book also provides stunning material that has rarely been collected in one place...a damning account of life working for Scientology leader David Miscavige at the secretive desert base...." (Tony Ortega, The Village Voice)
"Marc Headley, a former insider at the church, has written a tell-all book, called Blown for Good, about his 15 years of work with Scientology. And folks...you can't handle the truth...." (The Frisky)

Excellent Book
This was a great listen and Marc is a very entertaining narrator. The story was good in that it wasn’t told to illicit sympathy but instead gave an insightful view into day to day life in the Sea Org and some reasoning ,no matter how incomprehensible , as to why a person puts up with it. I was very touched by the way Marc respects Claire’s privacy as her story is individual & unique and it’s up to her as to when, if & how she ever shares it. Hopefully they now have a long & happy life together.

Gripping, terrifying, but hopeful.
I cannot imagine what this beautiful family had to go through. Marc explains the story in such a wonderful relatable manner, it’s like a friend telling you. I have followed these two on social media before but even that could not prepare me for this book. Thank you for your courage, Marc, I hope it helps others in similar situations.

Gripping and entertaining book
Very entertaining and easy to listen to despite the dark subject matter. The author has a great sense of humour which he uses effectively to highlight the absurdities within Scientology. I found his entire life story very gripping and finished the audiobook in only 2 days.

Mark is a fantastic storyteller and author
Another fascinating and insightful look at the corrupt practices of this brainwashing cult. I had to get used to Mark as a narrator, but his story is incredible and I am definitely now a big fan of the Headleys. Whether you are new to Scientology or like me, you have absorbed vast amounts of information, this book has a great deal to offer it's consumer. Just incredible.

Excellent
Loved it. Marcs laid back approach to the Sea Org, what it meant to him as a child and the series of events that put him in a situation that scarred his life for good.
Mark puts no gloss on his time at Gold Base and at times his 'surfer dude' attitude to events going on around him are a refreshing take on previous CoS books I have listened too.
Excellent writing and relaxing narrative.
Good luck to the Headleys and their family and Kudos to Marc's father for never giving up on his son.
