About this listen

The vampires have been vanquished! Harry Keogh and the armies of the dead have destroyed the evil that once plagued the world. Nathan and Nestor, secret twin sons of the Necroscope and a proud gypsy woman, were children when their father, his humanity poisoned by his fearsome struggles, sacrificed himself to save mankind.

Yet there are vampires still, vampires crueler and stranger than any the Necroscope had faced.

When these new, merciless killers swoop out of the sky, Nathan and Nestor are men - but they have few of Harry Keogh's miraculous powers.

Torn from each other by battle, the sons of the Necroscope journey across the vampire world, exploring its mysteries, each seeking the powerful, terrible vampires, his missing brother...and the woman they both love!

Good but difficult sound effects

If you have read the other books to get to here you will like the story. I found the sound effects to distinguish Dead Speak difficult to understand however.

yet another great story from Brian Lumley

First in a trilogy continuing the necroscope. not harry this time. but his son continues in his footsteps. it's great to know the correct pronunciation of names and places.

This trilogy is in my opinion even better than the original series of books.

I have 2 complaints though. the necroscope series and vampire world series seem to be heavily edited. parts I clearly remember are left out. second complaint is one of the sound effects of the character eygor kill glance. his voice is echoed and gutters. which in my experience anyway, made the spoken lines very hard to understand. other than those 2 points. a great storyline to read or listen to.

I would recommend doing both. Read and listen.

The Awesome Horror Continues...

As with the previous five titles in the series I enjoyed this audio book version immensely.
Not for the squeamish these, no! No glittery loving vampires here, Buffy would run a mile and Angelus seem a fluffy kitten in comparison to the Wamfyrie.
Yes this is an awesome tale.
However, I'm not saying the narration is bad but definitely not the correct man for the job. sadly he portraits the most evil vampires like grampa or Santa, his voice acting is just soo off it breaks immersion and it's a real shame.
If you can get past the narration you're in for a real treat with book 6 of the incredible Necroscope series.
I would advise any considering purchasing this one who hasn't read the previous books to go and read/listen to those gems first.
Keep some garlic close by, just in case and enjoy!!

Another Great Audiobook in The Necroscope Series

As with Brian Lumley’s previous audiobooks, in the Necroscope series, I’ve really enjoyed the story.

However, once again Michael Troughton’s narration lets the audiobook down. To his credit he seems to have improved slightly since his narration in Necroscope 5. (That or I’m getting used to it).

But I still find the accents and voices he uses, for some of the characters, really annoying.

The other negative point is I really don’t like the sound effects used for dead-speak. It makes hearing what is being said very difficult to understand.

Having said all that, I will persevere with the other audiobooks in the series, as I’m hooked on the excellent stories Brian Lumley writes. Plus, he’s left this story open ended, so I need to find out what happens next.

least favourite of the series

I think it's personal preference but I think this is the worst written one so far, everything seems to be dragged out to a crawl though I'm presuming this is a set up for something better in the next book.

A low point unfortunately

Completely wrong choice of narrator and a poor narrative by the standard of the series.
The frightening and powerful vampire lords are voiced like a band of mischievous gnomes. Plus some terrible audio effects.

So sorry.

I love the Necroscope series but Michael Troughton was not the man for the job. I really struggled to engage with all of his attempts at the last 3 books. Felt like a children's story! Sorry 😔
