About this listen

#1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts presents the first novel in a compelling trilogy about three brothers bound by fate, blood, and a timeless enemy.

In the town of Hawkins Hollow, it’s called The Seven. Every seven years, on the seventh day of the seventh month, strange things happen. It began when three young boys - Caleb, Fox, and Gage - went on a camping trip to The Pagan Stone...

It is only February, but Caleb Hawkins - descendant of the town founders - has already seen and felt the stirrings of evil. Though he can never forget the beginning of the terror in the woods twenty-one years ago, the signs have never been this strong before. Cal will need the help of his best friends Fox and Gage, but surprisingly he must rely on a stranger as well.

Reporter Quinn Black came to Hawkins Hollow hoping to make its eerie happenings the subject of her new book. She too can see the evil the locals cannot, somehow connecting her to the town - and to Cal. As winter turns to spring, they will shed their inhibitions, surrendering to a desire that will grow and form the cornerstone of a group of men and women bound by the fight against what is to come from out of the darkness…

Not what I was expecting!

I was meant to down load Blood Brother - instead I got this! But it was a good book. Never read a horror before! I got though it as I expect its a gentle one! Kind of petered out towards the end. Allowing for another book which spoilt it a bit. Nicely narrated. Might give the next one a shot in a few weeks........

Good story, narration spoiled by poor voices

Great story, and I’m glad I’ve read this before as a book, otherwise I’d believe the main female characters are brainless stereotypical idiots. As others have mentioned, the narrator, who is otherwise pretty good, does a poor job of the characters’ voices. The women are particularly grating - high pitched and whiny so you can hardly take anything they say seriously. At times even the male voices are poor - in particular Fox, who sounds like a teenager whose voice is breaking. Would be great if Brilliant audio could re-record this one!

Fab story, shame about the character voices

This series is amongst my favourite Nora Roberts and on the whole I enjoyed the 3 audio books even tho’ each one has a different narrator. My problem really is with the voices both the male narrators adopt for the characters. 2 of the 3 women have the most annoying character voices, in my opinion not at all in keeping with them being strong, independent modern women. And what has Phil Gigante done to my favourite character of all, Fox? While the other guys get deepish masculine voices, Fox gets an annoying higher pitch that makes him sound really stupid. The voice both men use whilst simply narrating are fine, just such a shame they put on these silly voices straight out of monty python when it comes to the characters.

Good book

This book is good though seems to follow a predictable road of the other books I have read of Nora Roberts. However I will be reading the others. Let you know then.

Great start

First of all series. Good storyline but I felt the exciting bit wasn’t as exciting as I’d hoped. Maybe it will get there in the following books

Blood Brothers

This is the first book in Nora Robert's Sign Of Seven Trilogy. Three young boys accidentally release a demon that has been trapped for centuries. Every seven years, the demon returns to wreak havoc on the town. Now grown, the three friends are determined to send the demon back where it came from. They are joined by three women who are intimately connected with the town and its history. For me, this wasn't quite in the league of the Circle Trilogy, but I think it would be almost impossible to top that. Blood Brothers is interesting, highly readable and with strong, likeable characters. Perfect for anyone who likes romance with a supernatural twist. Once you've read the first book, I guarantee you'll want to read the next two.

Excellent Performance

Having read the actual books many times, it was nice to hear someone else read it!
Narration is excellent, Phil Gigante does subtle voice changes for character changes and they work.
I love the use of audio techniques to make the demon sound ethereal. It really stands out then from the human characters.

Great story

I'm a Nora Roberts nut. I have read this series several times. I found the narration of male characters good but I didn't enjoy the narration of the female characters. I found the tone used patronising. I view these female characters as strong women and although the dialogue supports that, I didn't feel the performance did them justice.
