Summary
London.
Detective Sergeant James Henderson's remarkable gut instincts have put him on a three-year fast track to becoming an inspector. But the advancement of his career has come at a cost. Gay, posh and eager to prove himself in the Metropolitan Police, James has allowed himself few chances for romance.
But when the murder of barrister Maria Curzon-Whyte lands in his lap, all that changes. His investigation leads him to a circle of irresistibly charming men. And though he knows better, James finds himself enticed into their company.
Soon his desire for photographer Ben Morgan challenges him to find a way into the other man's lifestyle of one-night stands and carefree promiscuity. At the same time his single murder case multiplies into a cruel pattern of violence and depravity.
But as the bodies pile up and shocking secrets come to light, James finds both his tumultuous private life and coveted career threatened by a bitter legacy.

Well and truly wrung out after listening to this audiobook. The storyline was so so good, the mm side of this was so well done, the mc's personal relationship had me wanting to beat them to loving them...
Narrator is fairly new to me but im hooked... Ahhh need to have a lie down now in a dark room.....

Interesting
Too little time on the crime story and too much time on personal relationships and gay sex.

Excellent mystery and suspense book
What an excellent mystery, lots of drama and the story kept you gripped until the end. The characters were great. Dal McLean is time author for me, and I'm looking for to their next book. Love Gary Furlong narration as always.

God Story - Bad romance
I like the story and the mystery but I HATE the romance! In my opinion, the MC ends up with the wrong guy.. I was left unsatisfied…
The narrator is really good though!

One of the best audio books I have ever listened to
What can I say? This book has everything I desire: a story and plot that kept me listening into the dead of night, unable to stop despite…you know - sleep! Absolutely terrific sums it up.
Clever, intelligent writing; superb plotting; a gritty, hard won love story. And absolutely wonderful narration by Irish narrator, Gary Furlong. As a Brit I really appreciated his range of authentic regional accents, especially, Alec, the Scots sergeant who put me in mind of Taggart!
I can’t recommend this book and the next two in the trilogy highly enough. Bitter Legacy can be read/listened to as a stand-alone, but why would you? Especially as we see a continuation of the lives of the delectable James and Ben.
Dal Maclean and Gary Furlong…. Absolutely wonderful. 5 stars.

Wonderful
I was very pleasantly surprised by this. Having read lots of m/m thriller/romance books, this was a cut above the rest.

LOVE! fantastic story, perfectly narrated
So so good. I loved the murder mystery, the romance (ok Ben made me want to flip some tables and throw things sometimes), the side characters, the narration, everything. I mean, I even loved the murderer. Perfection.

Great story, patchy accents
The story stripped me and I have read the book several times. The narration didn’t do it justice. It was well read and there were only a couple of slips when the narrator delivered a line in a way that was immediately contradicted by the descriptive text.
However, be warned that the accents weren’t consistent throughout so sometimes James sounded posh, most of the time he didn’t and both Jace’s Yorkshire and Kaur’s both wandered around the country a bit. I think, for me what most jarred with me were the odd pronunciations of inquiry, duvet and Jacobean to name but a few.
As long as you are prepared for that, then enjoy the story - it’s worth it, but it is a shame they didn’t get a Brit to narrate it.

Twists and depth of story
Loved the complex plot and its twists. Thought I had it all worked out half way through, only to be wrong :)

Great Story
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The juxtaposition of the gay, handsome, but somewhat diffident policeman and the murder embedded within a domestic situation was I found somewhat enthralling..
This is an excellent book and extremely well narrated.
