Summary

P.I. Wyatt Thomas is more than a French Quarter sleuth. Much more. Whenever a new client needs someone to investigate ghosts, possession, or the paranormal and supernatural backside of New Orleans, Wyatt is the person they call.

Someone is killing New Orleans street people, and it is affecting the tourist trade in the venerable old city trying to recover from Hurricane Katrina. More than murder, voodoo is involved, the killer possibly an actual Vodoun deity.

N.O.P.D. Homicide detective Tony Nicosia seeks the help of Big Easy insider, and often hard-boiled psychic P.I. Wyatt Thomas. Wyatt has a new client interested in ghosts, spirits, possession, and the paranormal. He enlists the assistance of Mama Mulate, Tulane English professor, and an actual voodoo mambo.

Mama Mulate is lethally sensual, Wyatt a deadly sexy alpha male with a dangerous reputation. Together, they run the gamut of desire, carnal instincts, passion, darkest fears, and horrifying truths.

Will the moody Louisiana sleuth find love and romance in the arms of his client's beautiful daughter? Will Mama's gris gris protect Wyatt from a horrible death? Can they unravel the strangest psychic mystery suspense thriller to hit New Orleans since the era of voodoo queen Marie Laveau?

"A mystery wrapped iin a conundrum."

The superb performance by Joe Hempel makes this glimpse into the voodoo world of New Orleans even more enjoyable than reading it in print. Homicide detectives seek the help of ex lawer turned private eye (or anything reasonable that will pay the bills) Wyatt Thomas who has acquired the unjustified reputation of bring an expert in all things voodoo, in their attempt to solve the strange murders of street people in their area. Meanwhile, Wyatt himself is looking for the grave of a client's mother whilst the client's daughter is getting very friendly with one of the Big East's voodoo queens.

This is a great book to hear, not so much for the story itself, although that was fine, exciting and, well, just a bit strange. It was the great characterisations of the protagonists which really shone through - and some of them are, to day the least, exotic. Mr. Hempel captured them in all their finery and nasty dealings, his very pleasant to hear voice capturing each individual and narrating the story impeccably from all points of view whilst still 'becoming' the voice of Wyatt himself.

An interesting insight into the unfamiliar, at least to this reader, world of the voodoo religion and it's beginnings as well as a fast paced murder thriller. My thanks to the rights holder for gifting me this colourful book, via Audiobook Boom.
