Summary
Get to know a national icon in Eddie Izzard's hilarious and dazzling autobiography.
Star of stage and screen. Tireless supporter of charity. Marathon runner. Political campaigner.
Fashion icon. Human.
There is no one quite like Eddie Izzard. This is the story of how she broke through.
Her relentless optimism has led her to always do things her own way, even if it didn't work the first time, and her incredible self-belief has pushed her to keep on trying, even if it didn't work the second or third time either.
Whether she was putting on teddy bear shows on boarding school beds or swordfighting on the streets of London, Eddie never stopped trying to achieve her dreams of becoming a performer.
Brimming with her distinctively surreal humour and disarming candour, Believe Me tells the story of a person who never took no for an answer.

Absolutely loved it
Thanks Eddie for sharing, it really did feel like a long one sided chat with a friend. I would recommend this audio book.

Like a long chat with Eddie...
This book feels like a long chat with Eddie about his life. The footnotes really make the experience special.

One for the hardcore fans
I'm a big Eddie Izzard fan and this is his story, in detail. In lots of detail. In fact I found that it went on a bit to be honest and some sections were over-long, but it really picked up towards the end as it got to his marathon running.
Eddie narrates the story himself and provides LOADS of additional information as he improvises and goes off at tangents. At least a third of this book is 'footnotes'. If you play the drinking game of having a shot whenever Eddie says the word 'footnote' you will spend your entire 14+ hour listen in a drunken haze. Very enjoyable no doubt!
It's a good book and a good listen but I think you need to be a real Eddie Izzard fan to get the most from it.

A man worth admiring
Eddie Izzard gives an entertaining performance with lots of extra personalised footnotes. He is honest about his life and its clear he is a genuine person whose motivation is truly inspiring. I very much enjoyed this audio book.

Great in many ways
Unlike many autobiographies I’ve read, Eddie’s childhood was the most enjoyable part of listening to the book. As narrator he takes flight and ad-libs so wonderfully. His enjoyment added to mine. His childhood and narration is worthy of a book in its own right. The later part of the book lost some of the shine and was more about lists, achievements and preaching, rather than joy and freedom. He sort of explains why earlier in the book. It’s an enjoyable listen, Eddie has had a life worth writing about.

So much more than a comedian
Fantastically interesting individual. What a life he has lived so far, ups and downs but I was gripped and never realised quite how much he had achieved. Well worth a listen.

Footnotes on footnotes
Excellent overall. Loved how much additional footnotes... on footnotes... on footnotes that Eddie provided throughout.

Not a regular biography
The added footnotes to the audiobook really made the experience a fun one. A more personal insight into a very interesting personality. Highly recommend this to Eddie fans.
