Summary
Garth McFarlane thought he lost his shot at the big leagues. Well, his second chance has arrived.
Garth had been the favorite for the number-one draft pick in the next season of the USA's top sport. His college career was supposed to end on a high note… but it didn't. Sabotaged in his final game, he found himself shut out of the Dungeon League of America, forced to retire his jersey in shame. With no other options, he leaned on his university degree and became a licensed psychiatrist and therapist.
That should have been the end of his dungeon-crawling days. But then, a new dungeon appeared in his city. Before he knew it, an ambitious coach from the upstart X-Treme American Dungeon League was knocking on his door, a catgirl assistant in tow. Their pitch? To make Garth the new captain of the New Arcadia Phoenixes.
There's just one awkward sticking point in the contract—his three teammates are all absurdly attractive monster girls in need of therapy, and he's the one providing it.

A lot of fun! but with some issues
When i purchase an audiobook like this im mainly looking for four things, 1. Great narration, Check. 2. entertaining characters, Check. 3. Good comedy, Check. 4. spicy erotica, Check. These elements are the main thing i focus on within this genre and on that basis i could say this book is a resounding success, perfect 10/10! These elements are what i mainly look for and they are the shining star of this book, no doubt. So i definitely enjoyed my time overall! however in actuality i do look for more than just that in this genre, i could nitpick a few things, but im going to focus the rest of this review on the major issue i see within this book and warn people about it and that is the combat.
SO. The action. wow. boring. The way the system and skills are portrayed is so bland i found myself listening at 2x speed just to get through it, otherwise i was going to skip the rest of the chapter. Virgil in my opinion suffers from not only boring action scenes, but poorly thought out, out of character rational to force "progress" which results in said action becoming stale and boring. ive seen it in other books of his, and now ive seen it here. I mean c'mon, a person meant to be so good as to go pro can't figure out the basics of having teammates play to their personal strengths. The last fight was entertaining atleast, but that was mainly because of the humourous way it was written, not because the action itself was entertaining.
This book would have unironically been a 10/10, more entertaining book if the combat was fade to black and everything else was left as is. maybe focus more on character growth with that extra time because there was extremely little of that in this book, shockingly little infact seeing as how the MC is a therapist, normally you would expect the two go hand in hand. Also fair warning, the first hour of this book is the weakest by far, so a bit of patience is required.
I don't want to end the review on such a sour note. I do plan to purchase the next installment. The book is good and the charm it has is definitely entertaining! and woof the spice was so good it could give dune a run for its money. If you like Virgils other works, you will like this im sure!
