Summary

Traumatized by her past, and struggling to move on from it, Sera has spent the past three years of college hiding herself from the world and content to stay that way. A chance encounter with Liam shatters her sheltered world, leaving her stunned and shaken by the strange feelings and emotions he arises in her, feelings she never thought she would experience and that frighten her in their intensity.

Harboring a dark and deadly secret of his own, Liam knows that he should stay away from Sera, that he will only bring her more hurt, but he is irresistibly drawn to her and unable to deny himself the pleasure that only she can bring to him. But when their pasts collide with their present and Liam's true nature is revealed, will their love for each other be enough, or will they be torn apart forever?

Fast burn without world building

There is something to be said about subtleness. It is immensely unsatisfying when an author forgets to build a fantasy… a world worth diving into.

In this book the playboy is every girl’s desire. He is swamped by cats looking to get them under their skirts. In the meantime, the flunky roommate dresses the skittish introverted genius girl seductively. Ooo, I forgot… the female lead is also a super model. The two meet and are immediately mesmerised. They cannot stop touching and kissing. While the cats try to interfere.

Urgh!! Formulaic fast burn romance that isn’t even well written. The final clincher of horror is the third person story telling that completely lacks the passionate insight of first person writing.

5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This is book 1,
I enjoyed the story, the characters are great and the chemistry they all have is wonderdul. Liam and Sera have a very special bond. The friendship they all have keeps you engaged and wanting to hear more. This book is far from boring, the narrator did an excellent job. I’m a huge fan of vampire stories and this one was nicely done.

I really wanted to like this book, but the characters made it difficult

I really wanted to like this book, but I just couldn’t get on board with the two MCs. The plot felt a little twilight-y - which I usually quite like - but it just lacked a little more depth. It had a good few of THOSE types of scenes which were well written but the lust for each other felt like the main plot. It also took ages for the acknowledgement of vampires so at the beginning it just felt like a romance novel, if that’s what you like.

ok for a teen vamp book I guess, not Adult read

I think this is more of a teen vamp book, than a book aimed at an adult audience
most of the story was taken up with Buffy the Vampire Slayer story line.
jealous ex friends, frat parties, friends go and stay in a remote cabin during a snow storm
Bit too infantile for me.
the obligatory sex scenes very 16 year old in nature, wouldnt even qualify as vanilla tbh.
I'm going to try returning this book, I actually fell asleep to it.

It’s okay

Fine to pass the time but a little boring and a bit too syrupy. The main characters are cookie cutter copies of Edward and Bella - a shy, sweet, beautiful girl enthrals an impossibly handsome vampire with a self-loathing complex and they have an inexplicable attraction to each other that defies all reason. All the will they/won’t they is predictable and dull. No real plot twists and very little world building. The best thing about hidden species like vampires is to learn their secrets and how they work and revel in their abilities and these guys just seem like humans that don’t age, have a lot of sex and little else. No info about their physiology- they seem to have heartbeats but why, how do their bodies work, why can they reproduce, I know this is a chick lit paranormal romance but I also like things to be explained and make sense.
Also, the dominating male and the rather stupid wilting female that gets herself into scrapes because she is wilful and unthinking trope is getting old. I’d like to see a strong sexy female lead that kicks ass and saves the day and isn’t crushed by her possessive, controlling mate who is borderline abusive at times. The relationships in these types of books never seem equal, the guys has all the power and calls the shots and the girl is petulant and impulsive.
Love scenes are pretty good and Tavia Gilbert is the best thing about this book.
All in all it’s engaging enough and I’m considering the next book.

Cringey, Predictable and Great

I won't lie, there is nothing you don't see coming in this book, but it's entertaining and if you're just after some easy-listening, fantasy romance smut, then this book will probably do it for you. My only complaint is voice depiction of the female characters was soo whiny and annoying and it made them seem even wesker and more feeble than was necessary. Overall an enjoyable background listen, don't expect great plot twists or *gasp* moments.
