Summary

Paramhansa Yogananda was the first yoga master of India whose mission it was to permanently live and teach in the West. In the 1920s, as he criss-crossed the United States on what he called his "spiritual campaigns", his enthusiastic audiences filled the largest halls of America. His initial impact was truly impressive. But his lasting influence is greater still.

This audiobook, the version of which was first published in 1946, helped launch a spiritual revolution in the West. Only rarely does a sage of Paramhansa Yogananda's stature write a firsthand account of his life experiences. Followers of many religious traditions have come to recognize Autobiography of a Yogi as a masterpiece of spiritual literature. Yet, for all its depth, it is full of gentle humor, lively stories, and practical common sense. Now, with this audiobook, the 1946 edition is again available, with all its inherent power, just as the great master of yoga first presented it.

Enjoyable theatrical narration

I enjoyed the book but mostly I enjoyed the soft and colourful voice of the narrator. I am glad I chose this version. It was smooth, almost medative. A nice journey to India and the wonders of yoga.

Autobiography of a Yogi

This is a louzy book to listen, felt like wasting my time.I would not have bought this if Steve Jobs did not mention this book in his autobiography

Listened while practicing wu ji gong

I listened the book during my moving meditation practice of wu ji gong, sometimes it felt as if I was listening a blessing.
It was a bit long, sometimes hard to follow the story. It felt a bit too slow so I listened it on higher speed 1.3.
I wish to have a bit more rhythm in the speech.

wonderful tales

Took a while to acclimatise my ears to the way he speaks, it is so soft and gentle, but once I did, a whole new perspective of the world was revealed.

Disappointing

I'm finding it difficult to even know what is happening in this book. Unfortunately the narrator's style is soporific, monotonous and generally dull. All of his words run into one another with no distinction between this one or the next. Overall a great disappointment.

Not for a rational mind

I decided to listen to this audio-book after I read in Steve Jobs biography that was his favourite read. Sadly I cannot digest Autobiography of Yogi. Perhaps I should not read in those stories literally and take it with a pinch of salt.

According to Steve Jobs biography he decided to undertake the anti-cancer therapy when it was already too late. What SJ did instead? He believed that eating apples will cure him. And honestly, all I can think of now is that if you believe in this book you can easily believe that eating apples will heal all your maladies.
