Summary
St. Croix is the largest of the three Caribbean islands in the US Virgin Islands. We go off the beaten path on horseback and in a boat.
Editor reviews
Patricia L. Lawrence takes a boat to St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands and explores a conservationist-designed undersea water trail through the coral reefs. Speaking with a naturalist guide, Lawrence learns a host of interesting facts about corals - how they form, their function as an essential habitat for reef fish, sea urchins, sea snakes, and many other creatures. Lawrence continues on to observe the endangered hawksbill sea turtles, whose population was severely decreased by the tortoiseshell industry, which prized their beautiful shells. Finally, Lawrence takes a horseback riding tour of the Creque Dam Valley and finds out more about the island's history. Listeners may find some minor audio issues since much of the travelogue was filmed outdoors.
