About this listen
At the Sign of Triumph: David Weber's New York Times best-selling Safehold series began with Off Armageddon Reef, By Schism Rent Asunder, By Heresies Distressed, A Mighty Fortress, and How Firm a Foundation.
The Church of God Awaiting's triumph over Charis was inevitable. Despite its prosperity, the Charis was a single, small island realm. It boasted less than 2 percent of the total population of Safehold. How could it possibly resist total destruction? The Church had every reason to be confident of a swift, crushing victory, an object lesson to other rebels.
But Charis had something far more powerful than simple numbers. It had a king, a crown prince, and a navy prepared to die where they stood in its defense. It had the Brethren of Saint Zherneau, who knew the truth about Safehold's founding. Who knew that the Church of God Awaiting was a monstrous lie. And it had Merlin Athrawes, last survivor of long-vanished Earth. Merlin, the cybernetic avatar of a woman dead over 1,000 years, who was determined to break the Church's grip upon the human mind and soul.
So after eight years of war, it is not Charis but the Church that stands upon the brink of defeat. But the Church still commands immense resources, and - faced with the unthinkable - it's decided that it, too, must embrace the forbidden technology that has carried Charis so far.
In the end it is simple, for only one can survive. The lines are drawn, the navies and armies have been raised, and all of Safehold is poised for the final battle between those who believe in freedom and those who would crush it forever.

The end of an era!
I hope we'll hear more of this story; the end of the beginning - there is so much more to discover here, and I hope Mr Weber will tell us what happens next.

About time the story moved on...
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
If you have hung around this long, you are probably in for the duration like me. If not, I would recommend waiting until the author finishes before starting.
Have you listened to any of Oliver Wyman’s other performances? How does this one compare?
Oliver Wyman is perfectly fine as a narrator.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Yes, but no spoilers here!
Any additional comments?
I might not live long enough to finish this series, and the author is the same age as me...

Incredible narration by Oliver Wyman
I am coming back to this book just to give Oliver Wyman a salute and my thanks for his splendid narration of this book in the Safehold series.
You Sir are talented and the way you portray different characters is just wonderful to listen to.
The difference between a good and bad narration of a story can be huge. Some narrators just dont have the right sound. Oliver Wyman sounds like he can imitate just about anything.
The range of voices is more than ive heard in other single narrator productions and it really sounds like and feels like different voices.
Thank you for this great narration.

Let's wrap this up!
Webber obviously reads the reviews and feedback because, all of a sudden, he ratchets up the pace of this episode lickity split! Ironically, the change in pace is a little jarring compared to the previous book in the series. If he had moved the story along like this from the beginning then this series would have beeb a trilogy! And that wouldn't have been a bad thing. Webber still can't do female characters who aren't annoying but, as usual, his naval knowledge is faultless and I wish he had concentrated on this more than the personal relationships. You may wonder why I'm still listening to this series when I have so many critisisms? That is because the initial premise is actually so good that I really want to find out how the stoy ends...Hopefully if Webber completes the rest of his books atvthis new pace I might just last long enough to hear it!!!
